You have the anchor down, paddle stashed away, and you’re ready with your rod and bait. Now, if you could only rotate your kayak 45-degrees to the right to cast toward that striper. The Native Watercraft Ultimate 12 Angler Kayak comes with an anchor trolley system that allows you to slide the trolley up or down the length of your boat for 360-degree rotation (without picking up anchor or paddle). A tunnel hull design uses pontoon-like runners along the bottom to increase stability, and an anchor, rope, and mesh bag give you the basics for staying put. Attach the rod holder mount to your deck or dashboard (rod holder and hardware not included), adjust the seat and foot braces, and paddle toward the fish.

Can't decide between this and the Ultimate 14.5 solo. Dealer says 14.5 much more stable for standing but, unless that is so, I don't need the extra space and weight. Any thoughts?

How does the ultimate handle in open water, say fringes ot a sound or bay?

Depends on where and the conditions. Ultimates are very stable, but still are "open deck style boats" like a canoe. Sounds are usually more protected than bays from wind, waves, and currents that could capsize any boat. For adverse conditions and open water fishing spots, check out the Manta Ray Angler Sit on top too.
