Nathan designed the X Trainer Mutation Pack using feedback from elite athlete and months of grueling research on the roads and trails. The X Trainer Mutation features dual Tech Mesh-reinforced XTS Cradles to hold the included 22-ounce bottle, and a five-ounce nutrition flask in a horizontal holster for your energy gels. Cinch your light jacket or gloves in the tension-lock shock cord and slide your lightweight essentials into the Power Stretch Mesh pocket. This pack's ultralight Wall Mesh padding and elasticized waistband stay comfortable through long runs and won't cause abrasion against your techy clothing. The X Trainer Mutation fits waists from 26 to 42 inches.

Bottom Line: Harness your mutant powers.

i like options. different races will see me carrying two handhelds, running with nothing, with a nathan 10k pack, with a krissy vest, with a full nathan #020. this mutation pack is great. keeps my hands free. with one bottle it doesn't move around, which is what i was worried about. however when i get into a full sprint ANY hip pack moves a bit on me. it also has great pockets, nathan is always great with making nice little pouches that work in race situations.

Hey Dave,

Possibly in the zippered pocket but it would be tight. You could definitely fit it in the side mesh pocket though.

Sideways is the way to go

If you are going to carry a bottle on your hip do it sideways. There's less bounce and stress around your waist.

Race tested, works great!

I used the X trainer for the Mountain Masochist 50 mile Trail Run and was very pleased with how comfortable it was from start to finish. I normally wear a 2 litre Nathan hydration pack for training because I am the aid station. The X trainer helped prevent the forward shoulder role and bent back I usaually experience after many miles with a pack. The X trainer enabled me to maintain good form and finish strong.
A word of caution plastic will break, so be careful when you adjust the waist belt. I broke one of the buckles this morning by carlessly yanking on the straps before my run. Fortunatley the top portion of the buckle still locked and I ran 8.5 miles with no problems except a little extra bounce. I am ordering a replacement X trainer right now. I hope this helps!
