Why We Like The MSR WhisperLite International Multi-Fuel Stove

Globetrotting adventurers need a versatile, lightweight stove like the MSR WhisperLite International Multi-Fuel Stove. From white gas to unleaded gasoline, this stove burns it all, so we can have a hot meal regardless of the fuel on hand. Shaker Jet technology makes cleaning easy, and a large-diameter fuel line keeps the stove burning hot in case poor-quality fuel is our only option. MSR designed this stove with compact, folding pot support, letting us slide the whole kit into our pack or into a 1.5-liter MSR pot for safekeeping.

Solid - Buy it!

This is an outstanding liquid fuel stove for year-round use. I use it primarily in winter and it rarely lets me down. Lightweight, robust, reliable, and simple to light are important features that matter to me. Thus far, I have only used it with white gas and cannot comment on its use with other fuels. The pump is easy to maintain as well. Since I use it in winter, I carry the Standard and Arctic pump on all remote trips. Depending on the temperature, I have to switch them regularly so it would be preferrable if one pump worked well in all temperatures.

MSR WhisperLite International Stove!

I have used my the WhisperLite International for something like 20 years! From bicycle 🚴 camping 🏕 trips to Florida hurricanes 🌀 I used it for about three weeks straight when hurricane Charlie took out the power. About the only thing I have done to the stove is clean it maybe 🤔 every year or so and I think 🤔 the only problem I have had was I had to replace one little O-ring! That reminds me I have to replace the O-ring that I removed from the little service kit. I recommend that service kit I replaced that O-ring at night during a hurricane 🌀 power outage and all those O-Rings are special and your not going to find one when you roll into a campground at 02:00 🕑 AM in the rain 🌧 on your bicycle 🚴 and all you want to do is get something to eat and go to sleep 🏕 But if the stove needs an O-ring it is going to be cold Mountain House Chicken 🐔 Teriyaki 🤢 and a cold breakfast 🍳 So you need to get the service kit at least for peace of mind!

MSR WhisperLite International Stove

This stove is solid! I bought it to replace my 30 year old WhisperLite stove. No more empty fuel canisters to try and recycle and the cost of fuel is much lower. Yes my original WhisperLite stove still operates fine, just went with a more modern design. I cold weather camp and you can’t beat a white gas stove in the cold.

My favorite!

This is my favorite stove. I use in Africa every year to cook and sterile medical instruments. These stoves are the only stove that can be completly disassembled and cleaned in the field with min effort.

Good

It packs up well, has done well up a few mountains so far. Should have bought the 32oz canister instead of the twenty. Has been reliable so far!

Defective pump

The stove worked for the first use while camping near Pole Bridge near Glacier NP. Next morning at 24 degrees, the pump would not hold pressure. I had to abandon breakfast. Later I field stripped the pump to find the check valve had not been properly installed at the factory and was hanging loose/sideways in the spring. I reinstalled the check valve properly, relubed the plunger, and the stove worked properly. Big disappointment since I had a Whisperlite for 20 years prior that never had a hiccup (I gave it to my son). Then I buy a new MSR stove and it fails. I contacted MSR with my story and they did not respond.

needs improvements

product works great. the major flaws are when the stove is disassembled. 1) removing pump is incredibly difficult and safety goggles should be worn because gas can splash on face. also gloves should be worn because gas always gets on hands. 2) there is a small amount of gas that is stored on gas line, so when the tube is removed, about a 20 drops of gas spills all over the place. Literally, now, i disassembled the stove and let everything air out for about 20 minutes so gas can evaporate. 3) braided gas line is too rigid causing the stove base to never sit flat without something on it. Design improvements are necessary. 1) make canister have a screw on pump that stays on most of the time and add an additional cap that is for filling fuel. 2) Use a check valve in hose that supplies gas to stove, so fuel doesn't spill everywhere when disassembled. 3) don't use braided brass for gas line, it looks cool but too rigid. make these adjustments and this would be a stellar stove.

Only stove i trust in the snow

When backpacking in deep apline snow, your only source of water may come from melting snow with a stove. This is a stove that doesn't fail.
