Tyker Snowshoes - Kids'

Because kids don't like to have the 'kid's version' of anything, MSR created the Denali Little Llama Tyker snowshoe. With the same durable, one-piece plastic construction as our adult models, the Denali Little Llama Tyker steps over the 'toy' performance of other children's snowshoes. The MSR binding design is easy for smaller, mitten-clad hands to get in and out of. Denali Tyker snowshoes are made for kids who weigh up to 90 pounds/41 kg, and fit children's boot sizes 7-1/2 to 13-1/2, and adult boot sizes 1 to 4-1/2 (Euro boot size 34–36).

Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.

They need to hinge so the heals don't lift and make your kid look like Frankenstein kicking snow up his back

I have the Denali Evo and love them so I was disappointed that my 6 year old does not like these. He noticed immediately that his heals did not lift and mine did. It appears to be awkward for him to walk with them this way. I like the MSR shoes but wish I went with a kid shoe that has this feature. Otherwise they work well and are simple

I agree that having a hinge on these would make a significant difference. I recently compared these with the Atlas 17 child shoes in a store and ended up going with the Atlas' because they had a hinge. These MSRs gave us some serious pause, though (the quality build of the MSR, their reputation and our affection for the adult version of the Denali were all things we had to weight into the choice).

Add a hinge and these would be the best children's pair on the market.

MSR recommends these shoes be used by children (or adults) that weigh up to 90 lbs. According to MSR, these snowshoes will fit foot sizes from size 7.5 to 13.5 (adults from 1 to 4.5).

The thing that makes these so great for kids is that they are easy to get on and once on (if properly secured), won't need to be readjusted or messed with. They track very well and the kids soon don't even notice they are on their feet. This is in contrast to the 'toy' type shoes that mimic 'paw-prints' etc. Paw-Print-type shoes use cheaper plastics, aren't as secure, and are too wide as the child will be constantly stepping on them. The Tykers are much narrower and thus allow the child to run, change directions, and, with the incredible traction for a kids shoe, climb just about anything.
