How do you determine what size of snowshoe do you need?
Jessica SmithIts mostly by weight, They're pretty universal in realm of fit.
But larger snowshoes will "float" better in deep snow. The larger surface area keeps you on top of the snow and not sinking.
If you're going on longer trips with unknown snow depth or with heavy gear (winter camping) would be a reason to size up.
I use the 22" Evo Ascent snowshoe, with gear I'm about at 200lbs But I don't travel in deep snow with them, just packed snow or glaciers.
