Rendezvous Sun Shield Shelter
Instead of hiding in your tent, set up MSR's Rendezvous Sun Shield Shelter in the rain and continue to enjoy the great outdoors. One guy line missing
Directly on delivery I noticed that one guy line was missing and I needed the tarp for m birthday party outside. Up to now I was used to the quality of MSR, don't know how that could pass the quality check! Not so much amused, because replacement was not immediately possible.

Old School
My Moss Outfitter Wing, is the predecessor to the Rendezvous and has served me well for 25 years. MSR has upgraded the material and you can be confident in this product. I have used it with as many as 6 poles and have flown it off the side of my adventure van using suction cups to attach it to the roof!

Review of Rendezvous 200 Wing
I’ve only used my new 200 Wing a couple of times this fall and found that it met all my expectations in both wind and rain. It’s a bit of a handful to set up but I’ve used one many times before so we knew what to do. It is ideal for a large party where weight isn’t an issue. I expect the stakes that come with it may be a little light in a real blow so I plan to add another bigger/heavier set. In the past we have found double staking some of the windward guy lines usually does the trick.

Best new gear purchase
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
My husband and I love gear and have our fair share for rafting trips. We never had a rain Fly because our friend always brought his on trips. This year he couldn?t make it and we expected rain for our pre season Main trip. Days before we ordered the Rendezvous. It was an amazing shelter that pitched quickly and added tons of space for shelter over the kitchen or a sitting place in the shade. We used oar handles to pitch it higher and the convenient pockets at each point made it easy to do so. The system needed several of us to hold different poles or to get stakes in the ground. Would be a difficult job with one or two people. Would be great if it came with an extra stake. Years ago we bought a tent like sunshade but never took it anywhere because it was so heavy and hot and hard to set up. The Rendezvous packs small and will be with us on every trip.

great sun/rain protection but stakes need to be improvised
I use this shelter for rafting, it is a life saver in rainy conditions and exposed sun situations. It is made of high quality material and can be configured into shapes and heights to fit your environmental conditions. It is not easy to set up with one person but if you have a group it goes up quickly. Reading other peoples reviews the common theme seems to be the stakes are inadequate and I would second that. To improvise I made 12 inch wooden sand stakes, once these are pounded into the sand the tarp is not moving even on windy days. Sand stakes were made on a table saw using some old wooden flooring.

So far not impressed
I purchased this item after using a friend's at a park/no wind scenario. I've tried to use it twice on river trips in some medium/breezy conditions. The first time a gust of wind ripped the stakes out and flung them into the forest so I upgraded to 18"" rebar stakes as well as some sand stakes. On my next trip the stakes held but two of the skinny guy lines snapped. I'll be re-rigging the guy lines with stronger cord but what might fail next?

Awesome tarp!
This is a great tarp! I bought the 200 to use either when car camping with the family, or when I'm out in the backcountry with larger groups (I'm a kayaking instructor). Given it's size it packs fairly small and is great quality! The 200 comfortably covers a picnic table (with space around it), and when it is not wet one can also comfortable stand underneath. When it gets wet it tends to drop down quite a bit, even when constantly tightening the lines. But it's still plenty of space to sit underneath. The only feedback I have are the lines.... they are just too thin. I understand wanting to safe weight, but even just 1mm thicker would make them a lot nicer and easier to use. They're so thin that even though they're reflective they don't have enough surface area to reflect from and they are difficult to hold when trying to adjust them. Also (and that's just me) I would absolutely love it if MSR made it in yellow or orange... it would be like a ray of sunshine on an otherwise rainy day....

Outstanding sun protection at the beach
Took this to the beach for sun shelter and it performed flawlessly - even in the face of wind up to 20mph. I used snow stakes buried horizontally in the sand as ""deadmen"" and I was amazed at how stable this was in sustained med-high winds. Other people had those big metal ""skeleton"" fold out shelters and they were taking them down due to the wind while the Rendezvous just stayed steady in the wind. Highly recommended for beach sun shelter!

Yes....
So, this is a River Wing in nature, and improves on other models that have been out there. I love this canoe camping. Typically you can increase the overall height by taping an 18 inch stick to the main poles, making it easy to walk under and cook under. It is not rocket science. The advantage is that this set up is small, and light compared to many others. Im trying to imagine a scenario where the rope or stress points break as mentioned below??? I'd think the blue fabric would tear before any of that happened. I've used the Rendezvous in windy conditions on the John Day, the Willamette and other rivers in Oregon, and in the high desert in Nevada where the shade was awesome. I think this product does more than once should expect.
