Here's what others have to say...

Upgrade your tent/tarp setup

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

The worst part of a new tent are the stakes that are included, I opted to upgrade to these the moment I bought my latest 4 person tent and will use these with every tent I own moving forward.

These are super secure, but still easy to pull out of the ground when you need to pack up and leave.

I typically use these for my 1/2p tent or tarp setup, but opt for the full size version for anything bigger. Can't go wrong with either!

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Perfect blend of light weight and good durability. And I even like the color.

Perfect Pegs

Lightweight and excellent replacement for factory pegs. I have 4 tents and have circulated the 6 pegs to all tents!

    Great and light weight

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

We purchased four of the regular size stakes and then finished off the rest of the tent tie outs with the minis. They all "nestle" into each other in a bag really nicely to reduce size and are super light weight. The shape makes putting them into the ground really easy, and they stay really well. Also they are strong enough they won't bend if you hit a rock.

    In a "dead man"

    In a "dead man"

In a "dead man" in the snow it hold the tent in the winds

MSR Mini Groundhogs Weigh How Much?!

MSR Mini Groundhogs Weigh How Much?!

My math says 0.33 oz each (scale accurate to within 0.05 oz).

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

These stakes are tough & lightweight! What more do you need? I have used them for over a year now & they have held up great & have held my tent in place flawlessly...

If your looking for a little more hold take a look at the Original Groundhog stake from MSR.

    Drive them in!

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

Mini Groundhogs are great small stakes, strong and the best thing is you can get them in very hard ground...haven't bent one yet! Bonus..they are also easy to remove. They are not the best for sandy or really soft dirt, best to have the larger Groundhogs or similar and have both sizes.

    Tank Stakes!

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

    These things are tough!

I have always been frustrated with tent stakes but these are BY FAR, worth the investment.

I have used these stakes in variable conditions and have been satisfied with their design at all times.

    Worth the cost, tough, etc....

    Get em....

    Like the groundhogs...but better

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

These stakes are killer. Just like the original groundhogs but smaller and lighter, which makes them super sweet. Even with the smaller size, they hold just as well as their older brothers with out much sacrifice. Because of the slightly shorter length they do suffer a bit in softer grounds, but thats to be expected i guess. Only used them a handful of times so far, but I love them and havent had problems yet.

Replaced all my stakes for these

I recently replaced all the stakes for my tents with these. They're super strong, durable, and the pull cord is invaluable when the ground is just starting to freeze and you wake up the next morning and the ground(and stakes) are frozen solid. They are a much better quality than any of the cheesy stakes that come prepackaged with tents. Get them and you won't be sorry.

      Little brother to the Groundhogs

I used to use the larger groundhogs for everything. And as great as they were, I moved on from them because they were way more stake than what I needed, and to heavy. So, it was great to see MSR make the smaller groundhogs.

These are very nice. They still have the classic groundhog shape and strength, just not so much of it, which also means less weight! All around, these are great stakes to have in your kit (unless you are pitching in very loose soil or sand...)
