Thanks to the MSR Dragontail Tent, you no longer have to drag a heavy, double-walled shelter on your next expedition or alpine climb. This lightweight, single-wall tent gives you full protection in extreme conditions with its hooped, three-pole design. A roomy interior and large vestibule for gear storage and organization help you wait out nasty storms, and the easy pitching makes for a quick basecamp setup.
Bottom Line: Ultralight storm protection for alpine conditions.
The MSR Dragontail is an essential part of my pack.Super light for a tent of it's size.It has seen some of the harshest Adirondack weather from serious thunderstorms with winds up to 70 mph, to crackling -20 degree temps. It has visited 24 of the high peaks and still tagging along through this summer. It has insane space inside. The only problems I've had were that the poles seem to stay slightly bent when disassembling it,but this has been happening on every trip without breaking. And you'll want to leave the vents open in warm temps. For a four season tent it gets two thumbs way up from me.
The point of 4 season tents is that they can withstand the heavy snowfall and winds often associated with winter and alpine conditions. It has very little to do with comfort and more to do with safety.
So this tent can be used in all four seasons, however in summer it will be miserable due to it's lack of breathability. All single wall tents will suffer this issue (they make up for it by being lighter).
I disagree with Big Jim's assesment. If the tent is miserable in the summer, it should be advertised as ECWS. 4 Season tents are heavier, and it would be nice to own 2 quality tents, one 3 season and one 4 season. It's advetised as 4 season, meaning it should be comfortable or have enough ventilation to use even in late spring, summer, early fall temps. If it's actually too hot for anything but extreme cold weather service, I'd stay away from this one. Check out REI's 4 Season tents. I used one for 3 years, but lost it during a move. Enough ventilation to use in summer, great for cold weather.
This tent really is meant for cold weather. It is awesome in snowy conditions. If your going to camp in worm weather leave this tent an home and grab a three season
- insane amount of condensation/ice on the inside. (Yes, I know you get that with single walled. The massive top venting system is a great idea, but doesn't really work.) - poles have memory. - the toggles for the vents are pretty tiny and hard to get at when inside. - lack of guylines.

Im a big fan of MSR and have been since my early days spent in the backcountry. I based my recent purchase of the Dragontail tent on my previous purchases of the MSR brand. Im very happy with MSRs performance and quality. I have no plans on giving up on the MSR brand, but I will say I have a pinch of disappointment in the Dragontail tent, by its self. I set it up 4 times on two different backcountry accesses recently in the Grand Tetons and was awakened in the early morning three out of the four by the condensation on the interior walls of the tent as the early morning breeze rattled the Dragon in the north western part of Wyoming. Flow through vents wide open, If I might add. During the third set up I found a small crack in one of the tent poles, how and when it may of happened is totally beyond me. The poles that come with this tent were different from the poles on my other two MSR tents. They where lighter, (which I like) but much weaker (I dislike.) I had also noticed that these poles even held some memory, curvature after setting it up and tearing it down a few times. This tent has 8 points for guy lines, MSR supplied 2. I realize conditions and situations play a part but, this one seen the first season of my offerings and failed me.
