Do you love to play camp chef but hate scraping burnt leftovers off the bottom of the pan when it’s time to clean up? You need the MSR Base 2 Pot Set. With two non-stick, anodized aluminum pots, a strainer lid, and a Talon pot grabber, this kit is ideal for everything from a mountaineering basecamp to a weekend backpacking trip. The entire kit nests inside the larger pot, and MSR also included a small PackTowel to avoid scratching the non-stick coating while in transit.
Bottom Line: Leave the one-pot meals for the ultralight purists.
I've used this pot for about 2 years now and love it. I usually just bring the large pot and use it as to store the rest of my cooking equipment while backpacking. While I have to balance it on small stoves carefully, the pot works like a pot...at 6000 feet elevation I can boil 32 oz of water (with my MSR Pocket Rocket) in about 5 minutes. It is very light, very durable, and I use it to organize when not actually boiling. I recommend it for any endeavor.
This seems like a great pot. I just bought it, and haven't used it in the field yet, but I boiled water in it, and that worked great. It is a nice size and can be filled with cooking kits for the pack. Looking forward to using it.
It so happens I had both the Base Pot 2 Set and the MSR Ti Kettle in my office and the Ti Kettle will fit into the smaller pot with the lid of the Base Pot 2 Set fitting over the top and locking everything in. The MSR Alpine Tea Pot (Stainless Steel version) won't fit into the smaller pot but will fit into the larger pot. The diameter of the Alpine Tea Pot is too big for the smaller pot in the Base Pot 2 Set. The MSR Ti Kettle is a perfect fit for the system and will only add about 4.2 ounces. Just to be clear, the MSR Ti Kettle isn't a full 1L, but about .85L. The whole system (MSR Base Pot 2 Set and the MSR Ti Kettle) weighs in at 20.25 ounces (574 grams).

I have a great deal of MSR and it has never let me down and thats why I chose to go with the MSR Base 2 Pot Set . It does heat up quickly but even when taking great care of it the finish comes off easily exposing the metal underneath . Its really lite only because its thin . The handle/pot grabber is tough to use while your cooking and could cause you to spill your grocerys .
Pros : lite , the lid has a strainer
Cons: read above
If they lower the price by $25 on this unit it will be doable...not for me! its going back after only one use.
Two lightweight nonstick pots with handles in the right sizes that nest together with room inside for your MSR stove and Fuel Bottle. What's not to love. Just be careful that you put something between the inside of the pot and what you store inside so you don't scrape the the nonstick surface. Go ahead and pull the trigger on these. You won't be sorry.
These pots work great, the only reason I didnt give them 5 stars is because they are so expensive, sure they are light I mean they seem a little on the pricey side. Other than that though everything worked fine with them i was able to make pasta with them and use the strainer in the lid which was very convenient.
I have use this pot set just once. My opinion is that it boils super fast, is very light, I can accommodate the MSR Whisperlite Internationale inside the 1.5 L pot (without a fuel bottle), and it is easy to clean.
These do exactly what you need them to do and don't cost much. Food cleans easy, water boils quick, and you can stuff your whole backcountry kitchen in them for traveling. I easily stored the included Talon pot grabber, my MSR Pocket Rocket (CAS0368), Fuel Bottle (CAS0375), BC.com SPORKS (BCC0131), lighter, cleaning cloth, and a few freezedried meals in the 2.5L pot before stuffing the whole kit deep into my pack. Because these are made of aluminum, they cool quickly so you don't end up burning your hands in your excitement to get into that freeze dried Beef Stroganoff (MHS0003). The only thing I wish it had was some super teched out rubber band or something to help keep the whole kit together.
