Defective but has potential

By:
May 4, 2012

I received mine with a defect - exchanging it today. Compared to the utensils I've used in the past I can tell these are quite adequate for the job but some care will be needed as far as use and storage. Overall a decent product especially for the $.

Folding utensils

By:

These are pretty good. They fold up while using once in awhile, but not enough to make them useless. I like that the ladle has measuring incraments.

Are these spoons just plastic or are they the high-temperature

Are these spoons just plastic or are they the high-temperature kind that can withstand heat from cooking regularly and not melt?

They are plastic and therefore will melt. You have to take precautions when using them in high heat. Having said that, they are the exact same material as the plastic spatulas you buy for your home for non-stick cookware at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Similar to Kitchen Aide and other commercial plastic spatulas these will work similarly, except they are designed to fold up and be stored.

They are designed for non-stick cookware when metal spatulas and spoons will damage the teflon coating. If you are using stainless steel, titanium, or hard anodized aluminum, then a metal spatula might be a better choice. I personally use these at home as well as outdoors. They work well and are inexpensive.

So compact and light

By:
September 24, 2007

Was debating if I really needed utensils but decided to go for it. These were a great pick because they are so light and compact, not to mention they saved the surface of the pot I was cooking in.

melty cookware

By:
April 30, 2009

I just purchased the spatula for a trip in moab. I usually just bring a bamboo spoon to cook with but forgot it on this trip. The spatula seemed like it would work well, but only if your planning to serve and not cook with it. The first pancake i flipped the plastic started to melt. I wasnt pleased with the fact that it was melting after the first use so I just tossed it. Would not recommend it unless you like plastic in your food.

Spatula + Ladle = AWESOME, strainer = useless

By:
February 10, 2009

the spat and the ladle are awesome. don't bother packing the strainer. what's it going to do for you that a pot lid can't, except add weight?

Bendable foldable twistable stuff

By:
December 30, 2008

Other than the spatula not having a bend in the neck, I have absolutely no complaints about these. I actually keep the strainer in my kitchen and use it regularly. 5+ years of use and no problems yet.

not quite

these don't hold up quite as well as the jet boil ones. they like to fold up on you while you're trying to use them and the plastic is a bit too pliable in general to be as effective as they could be. for a few extra bucks i think the jet boil utensils are the way to go.
