Thunder Ski

The Thunder is Movement's all-mountain multipurpose mid-fat missile, perfect for blazing tight trees, dropping steep chutes and railing out through chopped up fields of crud on your way back to the tram. Airy okume and flexible poplar in the center core are flanked by hard beechwood rails, for a combination of light weight, progressive flex and torsional stiffness that seems almost impossible. The Thunder is one of those rare skis that cries out to be pushed as hard as possible and keeps coming back with tenacious grip and ferocious speed—so you had better be ready to take it to the limit.

Bottom Line: These all-mountain expert planks are light, but they come with the thunder.

I'm considering these for touring/ski mountaineering. For now I need a "quiver of one", good for both winter and spring. I'm 5'11", 195-200lbs I guess, and I'm wondering whether anyone has thoughts whether I should go for the 177 or 187. My mainly in-bounds alpine skis are 184's, 100mm underfoot.

Ski anything. Ski fast.

Awesome skis. Perfect all mountain ski for east and west. As someone who lives in the east and travels west once or twice a year, they are the perfect compromise. They ski beautifully in most conditions in the east (exception being ice or really hard, windblown crust) and do a great job in powder and soft snow out west. They like to go fast and hard so they are not for a timid skier.

I just moved to Vermont and want a great ski that will perform

I just moved to Vermont and want a great ski that will perform on the often icy hardpack as well as the groomed and then into whatever. I ski K2 P.E. @ 174. Picked them up last year and had a lot of fun with them, but felt that they weren't quite right for me. I am 5'11'' and 230lbs. I love the whole mountain, but I am not going to be pounding moguls the whole day or dropping out of huge chutes after being dropped off by helicopter. I still love some air under the skis, but you probably won't see me in the park or pipe that much. Till I moved to Vermont, it was the Tahoe resorts and Mammoth for me. I was considering the Movement Thunder and the Head Monster, in the 180ish range but not sure of width. Your thoughts?

The reason your p.e. did not work for you is because they were to small for you, at 5'11" and 230 you need to be on ski around 180 or longer if it is soft, go with something around 90 to 100 in the waist and if you are going to do any park stick with a twintip, LINE prophet 90 or 100, HEAD mojo 94, MOMMENT tahoe or ruby would all be excellent choices, they rip groomers yet still playful elsewhere.
