Alpine tour fanatics and ski mountaineers looking for a traditional AT ski should seek out the versatile, maneuverable Movement Shaman. At 77mm underfoot and a long length of 177cm, the Shaman is not a gate-access powder plank or a resort backcountry ski—it's focused on tour junkies, boasting a lightweight wood core for multi-day trip comfort and a stiff flex that holds firm on steep wind crust. The Shaman's generous sidecut makes it a sweet-turning friend for tight glades and tricky situations, yet it remains surprisingly stable in soft snow and a blast in spring corn. The light weight and poppy, turny characteristics of the Shaman mean that fit telemarkers who tour frequently will also get great results from this slender stick.

Bottom Line: AT, ski mountaineering and telemark tour devotees should consult the wisdom of the Shaman.

AT for the Alps

Wanted a medium-light AT ski with a shorter turning radius than the Atomic R:EX that I had been using. These fit the bill very well. Spent a week in Chamonix and a week in the Berner Oberland in conditions from powder to ice and corn to crud - skis handled all with competence and control. I am 54 years old, 6'1" advanced/expert - on 175 cm with diamir FR Plus I find plenty of float and edgehold. Can not comment on high speed performance - I bought these to ski under control in remote, steep, committed backcountry where I can not risk injury and I do not want to rely on a runout. I recommend them highly.

A true all-rounder

I live in Chamonix and bought these skis for touring and mounted them with Dynafit TLT Speed bindings so the combination makes them ridiculously light, which you feel the benefit of on climbs, especially those with skis attached to your rucsac. However, you lose nothing in the downhill. They perform superbly whether you are on the piste or in waist-deep powder. Despite them being lightweight, there is no 'chatter' skiing on frozen crud, they cut through spring slush, cling to ice and just float on powder. Also, no issues with skiing them at high speed; sometimes it's hard to keep them reined in! I think it would be a fair comment that they suit a quite dynamic skier, but I cannot think of any negatives to put in this review. I'm 5ft'4 (female) and I ski on 167cm. As a final endorsement, I bought them for touring but I now live on them on the piste as well. I can't imagine skiing anything else.
