    Great packing solution

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought the four cube version at a GREAT price from BC to house fly-fishing gear in the SUV… it's absolutely perfect. Two cubes fit 4 sets of waders (summer and winter) and the other two cubes fit 4 pairs of wading boots (2 pair felt and 2 pair rubber sole). The cubes are water proof on the inside with pockets on the top. Water/moisture doesn't leak out the bottom into the truck, and the cubes allow us to take out only what we need/want. The hauler is really tough Dynema with even more storage pockets. Extra rods/tubes even fit lengthwise inside the hauler. Awesome piece!

So these are one of my favorite things. What put it over the top was the use on a 10 day car camping trip in Shenandoah. It's black bear country so you have to use your car as a bear box at night. We put all the food and food related items separated nicely in the cubes, and when we were done we packed all back up and put it back in the car. No worries of hidden food or plates, etc. one trip and done. It also saved a lot of time of being able to find things with the color coordination. Highly recommended for everyone who does anything anywhere ever.

      Very Functional

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've used it on an overnight trip. It helped make packing easy because everything had a place to go. Then when I was on my trip, which was rushed and hectic, I was able to quickly and efficiently grab what I needed. Good practical product. Well made, also.

      Better than sliced bread!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These modular things are awesome, this is the second set I've purchased. I use one for all my camping gear when I car camp and the other set for all my mountaineering gear. My storage closet is so tidy now, I love it, most likely will buy another set when on sale for all my gloves, toques and stuff. If you like organization get a set of these puppies you will be glad!

      Mountainsmith Modular Hauling System

I thought this would be great to put extra clothing, blankets, dog stuff & a folding ice chest in the back of my truck. The carrying strap was gone on mine... Backcountry was ready to make it right. My wife suggested I keep it the way it is as it would be too heavy for either one of us to carry. Overall I am very pleased with the system.

        Four-piece awesomeness.

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This fits perfectly in the back of my SUV, right behind the seat. My car camping/road trips have never been more organized, since I got this.

The reasoning behind four stars vs. five...much like a certain Mayor, I don't like the floppiness of this product. It needs to be packed full for it to hold it's form. This isn't a deal breaker, but enough to take off a star.

I'd still buy it again or give it as a gift.

        Perfect for Camping!

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The Mountainsmith Modular Hauler System is awesome. I bought it to take with us when we travel and camp in our VW Bus. This fits under the bench seat and helps us stay organized in a small space!

        Ready, set, go!

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have one and now have bought several of these for gifts for others. They love them as much as I do. It's a great way to keep all your gear organized and ready to go. Throw it in the jeep and we are ready to go! Quality gear at a reasonable price.

        4X cube

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

What a great idea. Custom cubes, and a holder to keep them all together. I have a 2015 Subaru Outback, I have the 4 cubes, It fits in the back like a glove. If you're into survival, or have lots of gear to carry, or just like to be prepared, you'll want to get this.

        I got both..

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

        Decisions decisions..

With the price so low I just got both. The three is a manageable size for one person. The four would be best for a camping trip.

I do a 5 course meal at our local outdoor concert venue. With just two people it is a very easy and manageable thing. Four people isn't that bad either. We have had up to 8 people and is a full on pain in the ass. I felt like I had a hodge podge of different bags to carry everything before. looking like a band of gypsies as they pretty much haul away anything that isn't tied down.

The three is perfect for hauling and organizing all the ingredients I need. I prep the ingredients at home and plate everything on site.

The color coded pods make for easy organization. I also love their cooler cubes that you can integrate into the mix.

        Organization in the outdoors!

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I had been eyeballing this cube system for a while to organize our camping gear. I finally got one and have no regrets. You can label the individual cubes and know what goodies each one holds. It was ultra convenient to just grab a cube with the stuff I needed instead of digging around in various bags, cars, cubbies, etc. I have only used it a few times so I can't speak to the durability but for now I am impressed with the overall function.

        helpful for organizing

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I picked the three cube set up and really loved how easy it made to pack things. The cubes were a little bigger than I expected which was good so I could fit gear in to them than expected. I loved it so much that then I got the 4 cube set as well. We use these for a variety of different tasks. We used them on a trip to Florida car camping to keep everything organized. It was convenient to know which bag had what ahead of time. We even snuck labels into the clear sleeve on the top! They were also helpful because we organized them so we'd have one bag for nights in hotels on the way down meaning we did not have to completely unpack the car or bring EVERYTHING in for a simple change of clothes. We've used them to travel and visit friends and family keeping clothes into pre-organized piles. I also love using them when we're on the way to the trail in the winter - we keep one cube full of clothes to change into after we are done with our hike, one full of stuff we want to wear when we get there but don't want to be weighted down with on the drive there (jackets, hats, mittens) and one full of our dog's harness, jacket, musher's secret, etc. It makes things super easy to find and organize. I also love using these in my closet to keep gear organized. Instead of a few giant totes full of stuff, I've been able to organize some of the gear into these cubes. I've seen some complaints about wear and tear but haven't had issues yet and have had them for about 6 months.

        Working well for my needs.

I have had mine 3 weeks and it fits great in the back of my SUV. Works perfectly for my needs! I use it daily probably and I like that I can organize it for what I need in each cube. I have the 4. I can see if it wasn't full being more difficult, but mine is full right now and when I am using it it probably will be full.

          Bad wear and tear

Not great material used. See the de-lamination of the inner lining.

          Bad wear and tear

Yep I did the same as Edward. I think that the de-lamination happened within 3 months, and not a lot of use. Sure it gets hot in Australia, but it isn't hot enough for that sort of failure.

In the end the outer bag became a pain, and we went with a air tight container from NRS. The best camping storage box I have seen or used.

Great idea, but the materials fail

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a great idea, awesome for car camping and great for fitting into the car. But the materials that have been used suck!! The lining of the modular packs delaminates and flakes all over the gear inside. I have had this for 2 years and have persisted with this problem for almost 18 months, hoping that the de-lamination would stop. It just got worse.

Using this in Australia, I originally thought that it was UV intolerant, but the worse happened during storage in a dark but dry garage! Does not make any sense. This one is coming back to you Backcountry. Sorry. I'm on the look out for a similar product with better materials. If the modular packs were as well built as the carry case or made of canvas, it would be a great product.

          Great Bag

          • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The floppiness gets a little frustrating at times, but is more than made up for by the amount of stuff you can store in all the bags together. I think everyone should buy one of these bags- it has completely overhauled storage for the trunk of my car and is insanely awesome for toting gear anywhere. Bags are sturdy and can take a beating.
