Nice poles, terrible baskets

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have used these poles twice now for splitboarding. The baskets cracked during the first trip out. On the second trip, one of the baskets broke off completely. The problem is the basket coupling which is weakly attached to the main basket body. Poor manufacturing and design quality is the ultimate problem. Otherwise, the poles have worked well and are comfortable. I have noticed that there is a fine balance between over-tightening and under-tightening. After a few collapse/expand cycles, I haven't had a problem though. I have not found replacement baskets that are higher quality or from a different manufacturer, which dooms the poles as a whole in my opinion. I'd be very happy with the poles if the baskets lasted and didn't cost $15 every two trips (per Amazon, I have written customer support and will see how they respond. I am unwilling to purchase replacement baskets if they will simply break again, so I will most likely be buying new poles. Unfortunate SAC purchase.
