Sweet Mountaineering Camera bag

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I do a lot mountaineering with a club and this my go to camera bag. I carry 3 GoPros and a Canon T3i DSLR camera for taking photos of the club. I use to carry a second lens but that is just too much weight for something that didn't get used a lot. The pack counters nicely with my main pack and the strap are comfortable. Though when I am climbing steep terrain I'll strap the bag to my main pack so it doesn't catch. Also the bag is well craft and appears that it will last for a long time. I am super happy with this purchase.

Sweet Mountaineering Camera bag

Overall great

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I've experimented with a number of ways to carry my DSLR into the backcountry, and I've found this is one of the best solutions for having my camera and an extra lens available at short notice. It fits well over my shoulders and actually doesn't feel too bulky when it's on.

I will say that there are a few times it does seem to get in the way- when you have a super heavy backpack on and are naturally leaning forward a bit to compensate, or when you are doing something pretty physically demanding such as steep climbing, etc.

Overall though, one of the best ways to carry your camera long distances while having it close by.

Overall great

This is a great pack!

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Sealed zipper seams & built-in rain cover made me order this pack. There's a great deal of space in there, I put my camera & extra lense in there, also some filters, batteries, keys, wallet, phone, notepad/journal, pens, Altoids, two tripods, a lense cloth and a bandana in it on my last excursion. I wore it on my chest and found that I had to be very mindful of where I put my feet, you can't see where your feet are when wearing it. No matter, I found that I could set the pack side saddle and still get to it when I wanted something. If you're thinking about this pack I recommend it.

Functional and Burly Chest Pack

Just bought the chest pack for a month of backpacking/field research in Arctic Alaska and am very pleased! Harness system fits almost perfectly; it doesn't lie incompletely flush to my chest (I'm on the shorter side, 5'8"), but the small gap isn't bothersome. The case itself it great with sealed zippers, plenty o' room for body, lenses, spare batteries, cards and anything else you might want. Incorporated rain cover is essential. Ease of access is fast and easy. A great pack for the money!

    Great for skiing

I've only used it a few times, but my 2 lenses + camera have fit perfectly. I wish it had a sling version, but so far this has been great.

I have a cannon 7d w the 60 to140 zoom will this camera fit & is there a chest mount case a little smaller

      Excellent backpacking option

I bought this as I could find no decent alternative to photographing while backpacking (with my pack already full of non-photo gear.) I am able to fit my Lumix G1 with 45-200mm lens and full lens hood attached, secondary lens, and Canon Vixia HF S200 video camera with lens hood attached all in the main compartment. Plenty of room to store other small accessories and the built-in raincover is a must for backpacking. The cameras are easily accessible in front of me - the only concern I would express is that you need to be a bit more wary of your footing as the chest pack limits the view of the ground right in front of your feet! I haven't taken any spills but it's worth noting.

        Handy Chest Pack

I really like this pack when I'm out shooting. Because it's a chest pack, it makes accessing your camera quick and easy. It rides nice and securely once you have it strapped down correctly. It's really nice to be able to carry my Nikon D-80 along with an additional lens, filters and extra batteries constantly at the ready. Sometimes I do find myself wishing to go a little lighter with a smaller pack when I just wanted to carry a camera only, but that just gives me another excuse to buy another pack for the collection.

          Best Answer

          Hey Bernie,
The Mountainsmith Descent will fit the Sony 900 and a variety of lenses with it. Also, there are side daisy chains for attaching more lens options.

          Hope this helps!
