- Q & A
Great for a fast and light hiking pack.
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I needed a new fast and light hiking pack. This is just the right size for two water bottles and other essential gear. I also got the strapets to add a little comfort in case I wanted to load it up. Also since it is small and light enough I am planning on taking it with me when I go back packing for short day trips.
Lumbar day pack is just the right size to carry all the essential to keep you safe on a day hike in remote areas. I use it on the sylemore creek trail and the buffalo river trails in Arkansas when I am only doing a 5 to 6 mile day hike works great for that and vacation trips around the country when you need to carry a rain jacket or a bottle of water and a few snacks
Day TLS Lumbar Pack
Go to travel bag!!
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I took the Mountainsmith Day TLS pack on a 10 day trip to Ireland it is perfect! The Day TLS has a tuck away waistbelt that allowed it to be used as a shoulder bag most of the time. I carried an iPad, portable power pack, bag of various cables, iPhone, snack, water bottle, small camera, note book and pens, lip balm, guide books (never really used cause my phone worked there and I used that), ball cap and rain coat when I wasn't wearing it. Great bag!!
quick and fast

Whenever movement and speed is needed, this is my go to back. I don't feel disadvantaged using this compared to a full size daypack. Whatever I need for a fast, shot trip can fit in the pack. The strapettes are a must buy if you plan on carrying anything heavy.
I also use this when I am fly fishing from a truck or hunting out of a base camp. I can stuff extra layers, food, ammo, binoculars and whatever else I need for deer and elk hunting in this pack. I would never be able to carry out a deer in it but whenever its a short hike back to camp I will carry this pack
My go to travel man bag.
What I really enjoy about using it as an over the shoulder bag is the fact you don't have to bag check it where if it was a backpack you would at quite a few museums throughout Europe. I guess it falls under being a 'Man Purse' or something along those lines? Works for me
Great tote for lots of stuff
- Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
I sent one of these to my daughter living in Colorado. She had seen several of her friends with them, and was really excited to get one for herself. They are great for carrying all the stuff she takes with her every day. A very versatile, roomy bag.
Good all around do anything type of bag
Even works for fishing!
Good for so many things.
Picked this up for my wife's brother as a gift. Normally when I give a gift I never see it again. Not necessarily because they don't use it(maybe), buy I just don't see them with it. Not so with this pack. Every time I see him, it's within a couple feet. No matter where we are. Inside, outside, on the side of a mountain. He loves it.
It is my 'Man Bag'.
I still have and use one of the original day packs from Mountain Smith. It has been a diaper bag, it has been my camera bag, it has been my travel bag. I don't use the waist belt. I would highly recommend it to anyone needing a small travel bag.
The NEW Fanny Packs
Would I be able to fit a six pack and camera gear (body and 2 lenses) at the same time?
Probably would be able to do this, but you would need to be crative on how you put it in.

What size water bottle fit in the side pockets?
Great question. This will hold a water bottle the size of a standard Nalgene. You should be able to carry a couple liters of water if you use both pockets.
