Now you can bring the eggs. Mountain House's Precooked Scrambled Eggs with Bacon yields enough for two, half-cup servings. It's the easy way to make breakfast. Just add boiling water to the pouch and watch the sun come up while you eat.
Bottom Line: Eggs that come in an unbreakable shell.
Rather than write a small review for each individual item I recently purchased I thought I would share it all in one concise review. (Note with most Mountain House I add 2-3 oz less than it recommends)

These are pretty good. The bacon is crisp. Make sure to pour out excess water so the eggs aren't too runny. Pretty good flavor. Not bad for coming out of a package. Very recommended to getting an early start on the trail.
I have to admit, this breakfast item is pretty good. These eggs are even better served on the regular size, flour tortillas & a little salsa to make breakfast tacos. Just add boiling water, wait @ least six minutes, pour out any remaining liquid, & enjoy. No cooking necessary. Makes four good-sized tacos.

Not bad, but you need to find the right mixture of water. The specified one cup is too much, and when I've tried to scale it back slightly it seems too dry. Good in a pinch and great on tortillas, but look for the breakfast skillet. It's WAY better.
I used it this weekend and believe it was a fine product. The amount of water called for on the directions makes them to mushy. So I did it by eye, they came out perfect and the bacon was crunchy. The size of the packet does not take up much space in your pack either.
This is a good fast breakfast for hikers especially after 2 or 3 months of mostly cereal bars and poptarts. They taste pretty good, not something I would make for other people to eat at my house but I have had an empty pantry and cooked these before and they are great
I was pleasntly suprised in fact. Follow the directions and the eggs are pretty normal and the bacon is a nice touch. A little on the soggy side, but that's probably because I didn't drain enough of the water. The one down side would be the single serving, I could easily eat two for breakfast. Other than that, I really liked them.
These eggs are great. I was a little nervous about at first, because I had read that some people claim they are soggy. I pulled out the pack, followed the instructions (specifically the draining part), and gave them a try. They were really really good. I saw another poster mention that the bacon was crispy. You might be thinking he just didn't let them sit long enough before eating, but I had the same experience. I followed all the time recommendations and I also had some crispy bacon(in a good way).
There was a tiny bit of water at the bottom of the bad when I finished, but it was nothing that distracted from the meal.
This stuff is great for backpacking. They are light weight and easy to prepare for the amount of food they have. They say they are two servings, but I'm a lean guy and can easily scarf one down by myself, especially on a trip when I'm hiking long distances.
I was previously wary of these breakfast type meals. Tried them on my last two trips and was pleasantly surprised. By far the best of the mountain house meals. Trick is to make sure you drain the water off properly to ensure the eggs aren't soggy. Certainly appreciated the sodium overdose on multi-day trips, and the taste is pretty good.
This was one of our favorites for breakfast. The eggs aren't bad but it's not like you're willing to pack in fresh eggs either. The key with them is to give them ample time to cook and then drain the excess water. The bacon turned out great! All in all this was a really good meal and one we'll mark as a keeper.
Pretty good for a fast, easy trail breakfast. I let the bag sit opened for about 6 minutes and the extra water had evaporated, so I didn't think it was too soggy or too salty. Good size portion for one person.
This is my first time trying out Mountain House food. It's not like real bacon and eggs but it's edible. You get a pretty good 1 serving size. A more backpack friendly design of the package would be a plus.
I was supposed to let the rest of the group try this. But it was good enough,..i got carried away and ate it all myself ! They just had to take my word for it. It could be the fact that we had hiked 7 miles into the woods and up the mt.,...so i was hungry. But this Mountain House eggs and bacon is good enough that i will make room for more of these on every hiking trip i go on !
throw some tortillas on the pan, cook the eggs, and add whatever makes u happy(hot suace, sausage, etc.) the amount of water in the directions is a tad overkill though...
This isn't my favorite, but when you're looking for variety and calories, this does the job. The consistency of the eggs was weird, but it went down easy enough. The other egg and ham breakfast is better.
tastes pretty much like bacon and eggs. high sodium content though. like the cook in the pouch method, not crazy about the pouring off the exess water step, kind of messy and I don't like to draw critters if I dont have to. bag said serving for one, and it is very large portion for one and I'm a big eater, so if that's your objective, it's a plus. Bacon nice and crunchy.
I bought 2 of these to try them out on my last backpacking trip. The first one was runny and I kept draining it but it never ended. I just added Tapatio and ate it. The next one I used 1/4 less water and swished it around to fully submerge everything. Perfect Eggs! No Sog! I added more Tapatio anyway because thats how I like my eggs. Definitely better than oatmeal. I'm bringing these every trip for breakfast. I needed 2 to stuff me. Maybe 1 would work if I had tortillas and oatmeal on the side.
It did the job, the taste was ok at best and it was runny no matter what you do. It was good to have on the weekend trip and I would get it again. Just don't get it and expect it to be the same as if you were at home
I left the extra water in the packet and ate this meal as a thick soup . It was very good . The instructions tell you to drain the extra water ! Well , duh , I am trying hard to re-hydrate at 11,000 feet in winter so I left the extra water in the packet . I now keep a good supply of this breakfast feast at home for my trips. It was very good and sustained me for several hours . Two packs may be better for a really long time until lunch !
While these do not taste just like home-cooked, they still hit the spot. They do indeed taste like eggs (although the consistency is a little different), and you can also taste the bacon. When I am on the trail, my body screams for protein, and this is a nice change from beef jerky, nuts and food bars.
Way too salty for my taste. The breakfast burrito sounds good, might help with the salt. It does work as a quick meal in the morning with little mess. Texture and flavor are not bad.
These are ok if you drain them, but bring a tortilla and some hot sauce and they are pretty good ala bk burrito. I even got my girlfriend to approve them, which is not an easy sell!
My first mistake was to confuse American and British ounces. Yes, then I had to drain. Now I use the Jetboil base as a cup measure and with a thermal cover find the eggs are ready after I've eaten my Oatmeal and fruit without needing to drain any, and my coffee is ready at the same time Havn't fancied the Mt. House Chili (bland!!)but I carry the eggs Boil -set eggs aside fit thermal cover Boil - mix oatmeal - and eat Boil - make coffee - eggs now rehydrated
My friends made fun of me for bringing these - they said there was no way it would taste like real eggs and bacon. Not only is it about as close as you can get, but my friends were drooling as I ate my delicious bacon & eggs and they munched on granola bars with peanut butter. I never go camping without at least one as a morning treat.
When its in the mid 20's and you pair it with coffee, this breakfast beats the hell out of a power bar. If you are not crazy about removing the excess water, you can just drink it at the end, as I did when I only read the instructions long enough to read water amount. I'll be bringing the eggs with me at least once on all my hikes.
It's a little bit more like egg corn puffs, but they're actually pretty darn good. I suppose the puffed dry eggs serve to keep them together while steeping and keep them from ending up like oatmeal. The final texture is pretty good. Would definitely get them again.
None of the breakfasts quite match up to the dinners, but this one is easy, and really does taste like bacon and eggs. Not like fresh, but does have the right flavor for rehydrated food. This one only requires soaking in hot water and then pouring excess out. Much easier than the scrambles/omeletes. And to me, more exciting than boring oatmeal.
No, the taste is not worth the effort or the weight. You can do a lot better than these soggy eggs and too salty bacon. Bring something else for breakfast.
Decent breakfast. Bacon flavor is strong but a little bit fake. Add a bit less water than called for and the eggs won't be soggy. Overall, not the best I have had, but, not the worst
These eggs are surprisingly good. They have a slightly odd consistency, but so do all eggs that have been dehydrated. They are a welcome change after oatmeal of cold cereal on an extended backpack.
I usually take at least one of these on trips. Good source of protein, and a nice option from oatmeal. I suggest letting them "cook" for about 5 minutes longer than what is suggested, and even giving it a few stirs throughout the cook time.
Good it tastes great and is very east to make. Try and make it in the pan if possible or put it in a dish and add the water. This mixes better thus tasting a lot better. A great relief from granola and oatmeal.
