Description

It weighs less than a 5lb-bag of Idaho potatoes, and it's a heck of a lot cheaper too.

Mountain House's Potatoes and Cheddar with Broccoli for two is a hearty vegetarian meal that's ready in seconds. Just add boiling water to the freeze dried meal in its foil pouch and wait for your backcountry masterpiece.

Love it.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love this stuff. You can add a little more water for a super tasty potato cheese soup. Would get this again for sure.

great side.

i was using these for breakfast, rather than the eggs that require additional cooking. still pretty tasty.

Great meal or side dish!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Who doesn't want potatoes on the trail? Add a little salt to make this meal truly delicious! And be sure to add a little less water than it says, unless you want soupy potatoes...

Cheesy goodness!

This entree is the perfect size lunch for my husband and I and we really enjoyed it! Just be sure to mix the water in well with the powder, then let it set. This mixture is nice and cheesy, the broccoli is super good in the mix too. So much better then plain potatoes. This meal is vegetarian safe and I would recommend it to all!

Tasty especially for the vegans

We were making meals and had a vegan in our group. This was one of the only things he could eat.

I personally loved it. The potato texture is awesome!

My backcountry menu:

Rather than write a small review for each individual item I recently purchased I thought I would share it all in one concise review. (Note with most Mountain House I add 2-3 oz less than it recommends)

Recommend:

Breakfast:
Backpacker's Pantry Granola with Blueberries and Milk – Favorite :) (serve warm)
AlpineAire Strawberry Honey Granola With Milk – healthy and good! (serve warm)

Lunch/Dinner:
Mountain House Chicken Ala King – Favorite :)
Backpacker's Pantry Katmandu Curry - Yum
Mountain House Macaroni And Cheese – Oh to be a kid again!
AlpineAire Chicken Gumbo – Delicious

Overnight).

Pass:
Backpacker's Pantry Garlic Herb Mashed Potatoes – The Mountain House Potatoes and Cheddar with Broccoli are MUCH
better even the resident mouse in our cave didn’t like it.
Mountain House Scrambled Eggs With Bacon - Backpacker's Pantry Denver Omelet is much better IMO but requires a
pan.
Mountain House Scrambled Eggs With Ham - Backpacker's Pantry Denver Omelet is much better IMO but requires a pan.

Tastes great

As a vegetarian, this is a staple of mine. I really like Mountain House meals in general, but I favor this one in particular.

Great Addition...

This side dish is great to mix in with rice or couscous and would go great with many Indian entrees. We had it with curried couscous and flatbread, which was a great meal after 3000 miles of vert and 4 miles through the Uinta Mountains. I will definitely buy again!

Great with beef jerky

My hiking partner and I eat this with thinly sliced Tillamook beef nuggets added to give it extra protein and more substance. Very tasty and very filling. A favorite as an entree for us two women.

Great side dish

When I am backpacking with friends, we usually get lots of different kinds of food and then share to taste the different foods. The Potatoes and Cheddar comes with us on every trip. We use it as a side dish for the main meal. This is a good one.
