My fav flavor

By:

Hands down my fav meal of all the Mountain House dinners. I let it set longer than directed (with the occasional stir) to get the meat and potatoes fully hydrated. Especially at altitude.

Pretty good Gut-Filler

By:
February 26, 2010

This meal is more of a gut-filler for the purpose of filling your gut and getting warm. Flavor is a little bland but still a delight to chow down.

If you carry a travel-size Tabasco sauce, you'll be rockin' with this meal!

To Beef Or Not To Beef

By:

If you like small, crunchy, tough, salty cubes of beef, this is for you. Allow to rehydrate longer than the recommended ten minutes. This helps a bit. The onions & potatoes are somewhat palatable. Filling @ best.

What's up with beef?

By:
July 11, 2009

The beef is not as good as in other MH dinners. We still like it. We sometimes use it for lunches on long, difficult backpacking trips.

Easy packing

By:
December 27, 2009

I loved the fact that I carried five days worth of food in one arm out of the store. The only down side is after five days of eating these and other entrees my hiking partner and I had the worst gas we've ever had, almost scared the tent would light up. The taste is great and filling, so that is my only compliant and why only four stars.

Taters and Beef

By:
October 17, 2008

mmmm, very, very good. This is one of Mountain House's best meals. Go for 12 minutes to get the potato's a bit more creamy and enjoy. I split the two serving meals into two individual servings and the reconstitution process still works great.

Close second

By:
August 9, 2006

The House Potatoes 'n Beef is a close second on the best lightweight backpacker meal. House Lasagna with Meat Sauce is first. I don't think that either are large enough for two but afte a long day of hiking it sure hits the spot.

Pretty good. It is my third favorite behind the beef stroganoff and lasagna. I like a big dinner, and the 2 serving bag left me stuffed!
