You can stop hoping you'll see a sign for a Chinese buffet every time you crest a hill because you can get the goodness of a Chinese restaurant in a just-add-water bag. Mountain House's Oriental-Style Spicy Chicken for two is a great tasting, hearty meal that's ready to eat in a matter of minutes.

Bottom Line: Because it's tough to find a good Chinese buffet in the backcountry.

My husband and I recently had this for dinner at the bottom of the grand canyon. It was surprisingly satisfying and plenty for the both of us. This was our first time trying Mountain House but definitely not our last.

Good flavor and spices in this meal. Didn't find it too salty either and the chicken came out nice. Ate the whole thing for myself but was also thru-hiking so so hungry. Combine with some tortillas and its even better!

Love the spice..!!

It is nice to find a freeze dried meal with some real flavor. Mountain House makes some very tasty meals but this one has extra flavor in my books. When I am out on extended hikes I crave spicy foods such as chinese buffets and mexican joints, Mountain House's Oriental Style Spicy Chicken is no chinese buffet, but it is a great subsitute.

Fortune Cookie Not Included

By:

I enjoyed this meal the other night @ a high lake camp after a good climbing day. Not exactly like going to a Chinese restaurant but @ 11,500' next to a beautiful stream, the food & ambiance created a memorable experience. I let it rehydrate a few minutes longer like I've started doing with all my freeze dried meals. Works great if you can wait the few extra minutes. This meal has a very flavorful combination of ingredients with a hint of spiciness & you won't even miss the fortune cookie.

Descent Meal

By:

This was really quite a descent meal. Everything cooks up nicely and there is a great amount of flavor that comes out in the food. My only complaint is that the chicken doesn't rehydrate that well. For me it's pretty typical with most dehydrated meats. I wouldn't cook it for Thanksgiving but it was great in the BC.

Favorite Mountain House meal

Great dinner! The spice helps the food go down when you're having trouble eating enough calories. (One 2-serving bag is for one person.) The chicken was moist enough and the vegetables and spices tasted great!

Splendid Gut-Filler!

Variety being the spice of life; This meal makes a nice change of flavor.A nice spicy 'wang'! I let the water/food rehydrate longer than suggested so the chicken can absorb more water.I always carry one on a multi-day trip.

Thanks Community!

I wanted something that had a good amount of meat and veggies, not just creamy noodles or rice and one topping. This was looking like my only option to fit the criteria, and after reading all the reviews I was extra sold on this one. I didn't have time to try it at home first like many people suggest of any dehydrated meal, but thanks to the reviews I made an awesome decision here, and as far as a dehydrated meal after a full day of hiking, it did not disappoint. Like most people I had the whole bag to myself as one meal. I also did not have any desserts or side dishes, and didn't do any snacking between lunch and dinner. I didn't keep track of the time I let it sit before eating, but tried to err on the long side as well from other suggestions and it worked great. Would definitely buy this one again.

I agree, I always eat both servings myself. When I thru-hike a 2 serving bag is only the first course of my meal.
