Tasty!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Between the Lasagna and Chili Mac it is a toss up. Both are super tasty. Light weight, easy to pack, easy prep, and easy clean up. Overall I would highly recommend. Wait time you may find is a bit longer than the packaging suggests, but it is worth the wait.

Such a relief.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Brought this along with us on a recent trip. My girlfriend and I loved it. She's never had dehydrated food before and absolutely loved it. I was glad to leave the canned food I had brought for her, at the bear boxes. I will definitely be bringing this one with me on future adventures.

Best when not sharing a tent

I'll generally avoid packing this when my better half joins. Does have a few after effects. But tastes great and is fufilling after a full hike.

As with all Mountain House, the flavors and texture are great for a freeze dried product. Welcome warmth after a long day.

Perfect lunch size

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Oh man I was hurting. Tired. Weak. I parked myself in front of the Yellowstone Cliffs of Mt. Rainier National Park and boiled some water. This Chili Mac w/ Beef was perfect. Perfectly filling even in the pro pack 1 serving size. I prefer the larger "2 serving" packs for dinners but this pro pack is perfect for a quick lunch when you need more than just a bar or peanut butter tortilla.

Mash it up before adding water!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I'm a backcountry guide in Yosemite, and I do a lot of personal backpacking and climbing trips. Sadly, I eat a lot of these meals. I'm incredibly familiar with almost all of them.

Since this is a ProPak be sure to break up the hockey puck of food inside. If you just pull out the silica packet and add water and wait you will have a wet ball of food with a dry center. Not delicious. Breaking it up makes it a little like baby food, but its still delicious after a long day.

I usually plan my meals out for low mileage, easy days... and then long climbs. This is my meal of choice for a really long day when I'm getting to camp on fumes and I know I want a lot of food.

PS. Its a little complex and heavy for high altitude. Above 11,000 or 12,000 feet this meal can sit in your gut for a while.

Can't go wrong

Tasty, slightly spicy meal! "Pro Pack" is the way to go because it'll take up less room in your pack. Make sure to leave the boiling water in long enough because sometimes the noodles can still be a little hard. I found this to be true with all meals that have the round mac n cheese style noodles.

Possibly best trail food out there

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

There's plenty of good trail food out there, but this just might be the best. Add boiling water to the bag, let it sit for a few minutes, and you have a perfectly portioned delicious meal. I'll carry a stove & fuel on a day hike just so I can eat this Chili Mac for lunch. For maximum value, bring hot sauce.
