Mountain House Beef Teriyaki for two is the answer for a stomach that's been asking questions all day. It has a hearty mix of beef marinated in teriyaki sauce with vegetables and white rice. Plus, it's almost impossible to mess up.

Bottom Line: They'll call you the backcountry gourmet. And they'll be right.

READ THE LABEL!!!

By:
November 13, 2007

As with all the other Mountain House meals, easy to prepare & tastes all right. Contains twice as much sodium as competition. MH claims it is to improve the taste. WRONG! Maybe the taste of their food but not the better food manufacturers. Good to use in emergency situations when splitting the portions is your only option.

I did not read the label. Thanks for the warning. This meal gave me such heart burn that I coulding even summit the day I should have. I am assuming it was all the extra sodium.

A large bolus for the void . . .

By:

My first experience with Mountain House products was on a week long backpacking trip to the Grewingk Glacier, across Kachemak Bay from Homer, Alaska. We caught a water taxi, got dropped on the beach and started a great adventure that involved a black bear, a distant brown bear, a small forest worth of deadfall, treacherous and unwarranted river crossings, a heavy tram with a 1:1 "mechanical advantage" and enough postholing to satisfy anyone.

Needless to say we were extremely hungry at the end of each day. My wife was four months pregnant, which left her eating for two amd me carrying a little extra gear and burning a few extra kcals. My brother-in-law was in his early 20s, which is like eating for eating for two.

We carefully planned our trip, filled our "pantry" and mistakenly assumed that 2 servings was, well, 2 servings. As in: Serves 2. By day 2 we recognized our gross underestimation and by day 4 we were running low on provisions, namely hot entrees. On day 5 we rationed our supplies and settled for a bit hungry. Our saving grace was a hypoglycemic, overland journey to the beach to gather mussels to supplement. They never tasted so good!

The point: While tasty, these will barely satify ONE hungry person, noting that 640kcal if only a fraction of what is burned for most. Since, we always plan our provisioning based on total calories and have had no issues since! Give this one a try!

Tastier than the others

By:
December 16, 2010

There's something about MH, they all seem to have an underlying flavor regardless of which it is. This one is an exception. It's a tasty change from the more basic X and rice, or x stew. As with all MH dinners, the two serving is really a hearty one serving.

Unless you are on a salt restricted diet, don't sweat the high sodium too much (pun intended). If you put water through your system like I do on a hike, you'll need it.

Relieving great

First Mountain House bag food I tried, first any camp food I've tried outside military's Meals Ready to Eat (MREs). To me it was delicious! Despite being initially concerned at the price, I was soo pleased. My wife even enjoyed it and she's far pickier. At the end of the day 6-7 bucks to feed both of us a main course was well worth it.

This is a really good meal if you have a humongous appetite or if you want to use this as part of a two person meal and add some desert for two afterwards

Beef Teriyaki- OH MY!

By:
November 5, 2007

This was the highlight meal of a 16-day trip through Glacier NP! We found the pouch to be very flavorful as it had a good portion of red peppers to compliment a decent helping of beef and rice. Like most of the Mountain House meals, they're not really enough for 2 guys after a full day's hike so plan accordingly. I'm with Big Al: if you don't give this a 5-star, tell me what you're eating cause I can't imagine it getting any better than this.

All six in our group loved the BT. It was easy to make, tasted great, and was easy to clean up. One bag per person is probably the right dose though. Make sure you mix it up really well. I am not sure how the other reviewers gave this less than 5 stars - I would like to go trekking with them because they must be eating like kings.

Very tasty and filling. Great for replenishing electrolytes on long desert hikes like the one we just finished. And bonus, no dishes to do.

Tastes Great, and is Filling Too

Got this for a 10 day trip. They were surprisingly filling and satisfying. They tasted good too, we got several different kinds and this was not at the top of my list for taste, but was still a good dinner.

Beef Teriyaki

By:
May 15, 2007

Had this mix this weekend and wasn't thrilled as it was the only dinner I brought. Although it is low in fat and is one of the healthier options, it is made with brown sugar and I'm not a big fan of chicken and rice that has a sweet taste. Residue from the bag is rather sticky as well. Anyway...that's just my taste preference. I prefer the beef stroganof. Now there's a nummy meal!
