    • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

In the back country, I play by my own rules. That's right, I wear socks with my sandals and when it comes to breakfast, I don't let labels constrain me - I have Beef Stew for breakfast!

I thought Mountain House Beef Stew was pretty darned tasty. The beef reminded me strongly of Dinty Moore. The potatoes were delicious, so much so that I would buy a #10 can of them!

I'm ashamed to admit it but I actually would have enjoyed fewer vegetables. Not to say the veggies were bad (they were delicious), just that I was enjoying the meat and potatoes a lot more.

This is definitely a hearty MH meal, they don't skimp on the beef or the taters. I actually ended up throwing some out because it was so filling.

I had a traditional MH pouch of beef stew but next time I would opt for a Pro-Pak considering the space savings.

    Another Great Choice

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I've tried most of the Mountain House meals and this one is in my top three (along w/ Chicken ala King and Beef Stroganoff). Nothing tastes better than a tasty, filling meal after hiking for hours on end. These are super easy to cook and to dispose of. I end packing all the empties inside of each other to save space. Buy this, you'll love it!

    Good Meal

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

This is a really good meal. Sometimes when I haven't been backpacking in awhile, I will pull one of these meals out and eat it for lunch just to bring back the memories. Did I mention it tastes great?

    Decent for cold weather

Some freeze dried meals are great even in summer. For me, this is a winter only with extra water. Taste is good, and plenty of veggies.

    Not too shabby

A great way to end the day of hiking, the beef stew is sure to please. Warm and hardy and fills you right up! I only recommend adding some salt and pepper.

    filling.

My wife and I have tried many of the Mountain House food products and this is our favorite, so far. The reason this is our favorite is two fold. First and most importantly, I want something that is light and filling. In my opinion, this is one of the more filling Mountain House meals. Most meals I eat from Mountain House leave me wanting after a 15 mile hike, but this meal fills me right up. Second, taste. This meal has a lot of flavor. Add a little salt and pepper and you are set.

      filling.
