Stay dry in backcountry tempests with the waterproof breathable Mountain Hardwear Women's Typhoon Jacket. Mountain Hardwear laminated this exceptionally lightweight rain shell with Gore-Tex Paclite Shell and micro-taped the seams to seal out the storm. Pull up the brimmed hood to prevent rain from pouring down your face and keep hiking. Articulated sleeves allow you to adjust your pack and tie your shoelaces without arm restraint. Unzip underarm vents to let out body heat as you move swiftly up the trail toward the summit.
Bottom Line: When rain threatens in the mountains, take the waterproof breathable Mountain Hardwear Typhoon Jacket out of your pack.
Hi there... depends on the ski helmet. This is a pretty large hood but it is more designed as a rain shell than a ski jacket. We basically have 2 types of hoods on our jackets. Hoods on jackets that accommodate helmets, climbing or otherwise, and hoods on jackets that don't. This jacket falls under the category where it is not as big a priority but like I said earlier... depending on the helmet you will more than likely be fine. Hope this info helps!
I am an urbanite for the most part, which means I have lived in big and small cities, always subject to public transportation. I found a good waterproof jacket was key to getting to and from work or class. I bought this one to last me forever, and so far so good. I haven't had any massive rainstorms yet, but the nice thing about this jacket is that it breathes so nicely. it is paper thin, and waterproof. I have enough room for a fleece under it too, for the colder days. The only thing, and this is cosmetic, is that it is a bit boxy for me, I prefer my jackets to hug my sides a bit closer, but all in all, the extra room will be appreciated.

Fantastic breathability. Nicely waterproof. Keeps out the wind. Pockets a little small, but the superior quality materials make this jacket a great purchase at a great price.
Had a serious malfunction with this jacket. Awesome if you travel with it folded perfectly... not so awesome if you stuff it in the stashpocket. My friend had no issues with her jacket while backpacking through a VERY wet Ireland (she laid it out and folded it perfectly like a fragile cashmere sweater). I stuffed mine in the enclosed pocket and had a wet face and rain in my eyes constantly. No matter how hard i tried to straighten out the bill, it was a doomed venture. That sucker got bent and did NOT want to straighten out again. Kinda defeats a lot of the purpose if you ask me. Going to try to straighten the bill by heating it up with a blowdryer? I dunno - grasping straws here. When not having bill issues - Great rain protection and fit true to size. Seemed to breathe well enough and vents well. Just don't stuff the jacket or you'll be sorry... sorry and wet. (Got my jacket a few years ago, she got hers last year. I suppose there could be design differences - but when touching/comparing there were no significant differences between the two. Never had any problems with this jacket - but this is also the first time I've stuffed the jacket for any lengthy period of time).
This is a really great jacket. However, I ordered a large to accomodate layers underneath. The medium (my usual size)would be adequate for layering. If I was not worried about layers, the small would probably have been roomy enough. This jacket is no longer available in the color I want, so I must exchange for another style.
nadine. This would be a great jacket for Spring Summer use. It is made with the GoreTex Paclite laminate and is a great weight for year-round use. Hope this helps!
Tried this jacket again a size smaller and in black and now I love it. I work on a farm and this jacket is tough enough to hold up through everything that I do, and keeps me dry too.
Just got back from a 2 week camping trip in the Nantahala Forest, NC and Cade's Cove, TN. It rained plenty; but I was prepared with this fantastic new coat! It fit the bill and the hood stays put, just the way I like it!
Hi. I am wondering if the hood zips into the collar, or zips off. Also, do the sizes run true to size, big or small? I am borderlining the small/medium in the sizing chart.
Lauren. The hood neither rolls into the collar or zips off. It rolls up and then is secured by the flap you can see in the picture in the hood. This flap, when not in use, sits flat inside the hood and is held there by velcro. It is a good and lightweight system to secure the hood. Cheers!
This might have been a cool jacket if the color weren't so horrible. "Green tea" is a discontinued color for a reason, no matter how much I tried to convince myself.

The bottom line: the zippered pocket openings aren't wide enough to accommodate my bird book easily. It's also shorter than I expected, falling 3-4 inches below my waist. As the product description states, it is very lightweight, allows for easy arm movement, and has a hood that keeps water out of your face. It doesn't work for me but I recommend that others take a look.
