    Plays well with others.

It happened again: Mother Nature unleashed a furious and soggy pile of precipitation, right on top of you. However, as your Ma would've said, turn that frumpy frown into a soggy smile with Mountain Hardwear's Thermostatic Insulated Jacket. This covertly technical coat is crafted with a synthetic insulation that keeps you warm, even when wet. Because, we've all been there at one point—you head out the door for a sunrise jaunt up Smugglers Notch and find a luscious, cloudless sunrise only to have the weather turn into a pitiless, aqueous beast two hours into your adventure.

Consider this jacket the antithesis to potential precipitation. Equipped with the down-mimicking synthetic technology Thermal.Q Elite, it maintains loft while harnessing heat and transporting moisture without the excessive bulkiness often found in comparable synthetic jackets. This year's edition has a zippered chest pocket that's pack compatible and doubles as a stuff sack, perfect for clipping to your harness or throwing in your pack as a, "just in case."

    Amazing Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I love this thing. I love wearing it on top of a tshirt and hoodie. It keeps me so warm when I am outside. The thing I love the most though is that when I go inside it almost magically transforms into a breathable lightweight jacket that I do not even remember I am wearing. I hate giant winter jackets that are overwhelming to wear inside but are a pain to carry around. This jacket is not like that. It keeps me super warm even when it is like 30 degrees F out but breathable enough for me to just leave on and stay comfortable when I get to class.

    Solid, lightweight and new favorite

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Small

Got this for extra layer and wear all the time now. Very light but warm. Packs up small, feels like a sweater not a jacket. A little snug in the arm pit but great tailored fit. Great value there are other similar ones that are far more expensive.
    I would highly recommend.

    Great Lightweight Midlayer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Medium

This thing doesn't weight much which makes it a great midlayer to bring along. I got a medium and it feels slightly big over a T-shirt but not overly so. Over a baselayer and an active layer it fits great. And I can throw the shell over all that. It's not a heavy jacket by any means. By itself it can probably handle 50 F temps and resists wind pretty well. Awesome as part of a layering system in the winter or and nice super lightweight jacket in more moderate temps.

This fits large compared to the mountain hardwear compressor. Small compressor was too small for me.

    Nice synthetic jacket.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Large

Great packable insulating piece. I really like that it can pack into it's own pocket as this makes packing it so much easier. Provides good warmth especially when layered under a shell. Fit is a bit roomy, definitely not an athletic fit, but if you're layering it then this shouldn't matter much. All in all a great jacket.

    Love love this jacket!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

It's super warm, comfy but not bulky. I can stuff it in my pack and it hardly takes up any room. I like it so much I ordered one for my friend. The chest pocket is perfect for slipping your cell into. Highly recommended if warmth and pack size is important to you!

Hey Ive heard some mountain hardwear gear tends to runs big. In your opinion is this jacket pretty true to size? Also, is it more of an athletic or loose fit? I'm a muscular/stalky 5'11'' 195 and am just trying to get a feel for my size

    Chase,

MHW does run bigger than other brands. So a Medium in MHW would be perfect for someone that is in between a Medium and Large on say a brand life Arc'teryx.

It sounds like you'd probably be a size Large but I wouldn't be able to say for sure unless I had your chest and waist measurements.

For their sizing chart, I'd say they're pretty spot on.
