Mountain Hardwear Tenacity Parka - Men's - 2006 BCS

I bought this jacket last month for a trip to Aconcagua I am taking at the end of the year. Used it on a training hike two weeks ago in northern Arizona. My nice day for a climb turned into a thunderstorm. For almost nine miles this jacket kept me dry and protected me from the wind. The normal sweaty feeling I have gotten from other jackets when working hard was not an issue with my new MH Tenacity Jacket. I especially like the beefy zipper in the front, it is easy to operate and doesn't snag.

Pros: While most companies have followed Arc’teryx’s "exposed zip" fad, MH has smartly continued using storm flaps to protect the front zipper from ice buildup. Surprisingly light. The athletic cut reduces wind flap but leaves enough room for a down sweater to achieve full loft (if you buy the right size).

Cons: The fabric feels flimsy. Brushed threads give it a refined feel (think J Crew) but threaten to absorb grit, sunscreen, peanut butter and other junk that will compromise the DWR finish. You'll have to wrestle the cuffs over your hands to put it on—what's wrong with a little elastic? Mesh lined pockets allow moisture transfer from hands/pocketed equipment directly through the shell and onto your insulating layer.

I took this jacket out in a torrential downpour to test it out, and I didn't get a drop on me. It’s lightweight, keeps the wind out, and keeps you dry like you wouldn't believe. It’s a bit pricey (hence the 4 *'s), but if you like great technical gear, this is the one to get.
