Mountain Hardwear Synchro Softshell Pant - Men's - 2009 BCS

there's a big problem with sizing chart for synchro pant (or pb of manufacturing)
I've already bought a mountain hardwear pant size M regular (fits perfect)
ordered this time a synchro pant, same size (I read previous reviews : too large or too small according to different reviews and different versions 2006 or current one)
for me it was like an XL pant (length and waist)
think that they must check sizing of synchro pant...

GREAT PANTS! I didn't take them off for 7 days straight. They breathe very well, shed water and snow superbly. Used them in cold conditions, low teen's and high winds with just a baselayer underneath, and in warm, 40 degrees and sunny, vented, with a baselayer underneath. These are the best pants and I'd reccomend them to anyone going into the mountains when it's chilly. It's worth the dough.

I was very pleasantly surprised with these pants. I took them on a 34 day NOLS Patagonia mountaineering course as my primary trekking pant. I brought along a pair of Marmot Precip rain pants to wear over them in case it started raining really hard, but I never even had to take them out. It ended up raining or snowing 29 of the 34 days I was in the field, and I remained dry throughout. The waterproof side zippers worked great, and the conduit material kept all water out even though they were softshells. I never expected these to be completely waterproof, but they functioned equally well as rain pants ans they did climbing pants. They were also extremely durable, holding up to bushwhacking, rock scrambling, and falling on ice. I did split the crotch seam somehow, but it was easily sewed back up.

For the price these pants are awesome: waterproof, durable, and comfortable.

I have used these now on several ice climbing trip - these keep me dry and I have not experienced any of the complaints others have noted on this thread. I use external gaiters - I'd prefer to chew those up with crampon bites then walk around with tape on these. They dry out fast, offer a little insulation but work beautifully with under armor base and mid layers.

I bought these pants to bridge the gap between a pair of nylon convertibles and my Beryllium Bib - these are a new favorite.

These are great pants. They are one of the few softshell pants with side zips. The insides are comfortable so no base layer is needed. My only problem is the sizing. I wear a size 38 waist in every other pant. The sizing chart claims that I should use a size large. This is not right. A large in these pants will only fit up to size 36. I exchanged them for an XL, which must be meant for someone with a size 42 waist. I was swimming in them. I tried a belt, but there was so much extra material that it was uncomfortable. I will have to give up on these because they just don't make this pant for my size.

They run small, I`m a 33 waist ordered a M length was perfect but couldnt close the snap. Sent them back for a large which is a little longer and a lot larger in the waist

I ordered these for an ice climbing trip I`ll be doing in a couple of weeks and decided to test them out in the Catskills. 8-12inches of snow temps in the teens, post-holed it up Indian Head Mtn. There is no true gaiter on these pants, there is an elastic draw cord around the cuff. It doesnt stay around the boot, so snow gets in, and you are left with an 8 inch length of elastic cord hanging from your cuff, pain in the butt to keep tucking in.

The cuff got caught on the crust that formed over the snow from sleet and the zipper popped open from the bottom, its not supposed to separate from the bottom, it zips from mid thigh down to the cuff but the zipper isnt supposed to separate. Had to force zipper down realign the teeth and rezip.

Love the feel of them though, stayed dry and warm, had a light pair of long johns underneath, could have done with out them. They would be perfect for skiing and snowshoeing, hope they hold up for ice climbing.

I really want(ed) these pants but just couldn't get it to work. I've been skiing all my life and never had so much trouble. The mediums were so tight that I couldn't bend over and the large was too big in every dimension. I wear a 34/30 pant, which shouldn't be this hard to fit. I really want to love these pants as I already have and use the synchro jacket but I'll probably have to go with normal gortex or another company now.

Bought these for an upcoming trek, but have been using them snowshoeing,hiking and downhill ski. Very comfortable, they are not restrictive in the least bit. they fit the bill when temps are below 25 degrees. Warmer than this, I need to open up side zips. When temps are in the teens a pair of long underwear does the trick. With a pair of gaiters, deep snow stays out. Great water resistance. Very happy with these. Bought a pair for my wife.

Awesome pant, but sizing is tough. I wear about a 34' waist and the waist sizes for M are 32-34 and for L are 36-38. I figured I would have a layer underneath for coldweather hiking and ordered the L. Unfortunately it was too big :( and there are no M in stock. But AWESOME pant! 4 for sizing gap
