Mountain Hardwear Switch 20 Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Synthetic - 2008 BCS

Slept right out in the open under the stars and slept toasty. I also like the extra room you get when unzipping the extender. It only got down to about 35* so don't know how it holds up lower than that. For the $.....great product.

This bag does NOT work at 20 degrees. I wouldn't trust it to work at 30 degrees. I had the misfortune of using both the long and regular versions of this bag, and froze my butt off on a long climbing trip both at J-Tree and Bishop. I was doing everything right, too - the pad, zippers, everything was by-the-book. I ended up having to wear my undies, my fleece, and my downie to stay warm inside this bag.

When you wake up soaking wet and your buddies are covered in frost, you know that you're losing a lot of heat.

It'd be nice as a summer bag, but it's too heavy compared to other options out there.

For this price you will not find a better sleeping bag. It's Mountain Hardwear... they don't make a bad product. No, it's not a Lamina, but even still this sleeping bag is super warm and top quality built--for under $100. I would say that the Switch is equivalent to the Mountain Hardwear Lamina 35, as far as warmth goes, but for a lot cheaper. It will certainly keep you warm at 20 degrees, if that's your bottom line. As always wear some warm base layers (polypro top & bottoms)to ensure warmth when pushing the lower end of the temp ratings.

This bag was awesome! Toasty, comfortable, roomy, and cheap sum it up. I use this thing in conjunction with my therm-a-rest trail light pad and sleep like a baby.

Got a Switch 20 Long. I'm 6'3" 213#; used for 9 days in the Bitterroots/LoLo NF in MT 16-25 Nov. Didn't keep me warm with temps 25+ at night. I was also using an OR Bivy Sack with it (no tent)--no liner. It was cold/hard to sleep but not impossible, all the warmth seemed to go out of the foot panel (plugged with a jacket and it worked better.
Tried not to keep it compressed all the time, if I could hang it in a tree during the day I would.
The Long was a good fit for me, standard for a sleeping bag.
