If you've ever left a rain jacket behind to save on weight, you'll dig the Mountain Hardwear Swift Jacket. Made from Gore-Tex PacLite, the Swift weighs in at under a pound and packs down small. Don't think it's all about weight though. Paclite is also some of the most breathable waterproof laminate around, so even though it's raining cats, dogs, and occasionally moose outside, you won't drown in sweat or water during a hard climb. Micro Tape construction cuts out weight and bulk, and laminated details remove stitching for a similar effect. Don't settle for an uncomfortable rainshell to save weight, or leave yourself without protection, get a Swift, and be quick about it.
I bought this jacket with high hopes. I read all the reviews and thought that this would be the perfect waterproof shell. First of all that is all this is-a shell. There is absolutely no inner lining. I wanted a light weight waterproof shell that I could wear for everyday use. I not planning on climbing Everest in this lifetime, I just wanted a lightweight jacket to wear to school/work and everywhere else. This jacket is kind of noisy. It has very long cut arms. I am 6 feet tall and have longer arms than most and it still drowned me. the sleeves would bunch up on my wrists and hands which made it difficult for everyday use, I constantly found myself pulled up on the sleeves. It is very waterproof/windproof, but you can get thte same quality water/wind proofing for less money. The hood is a stow away in the collar hood. it bunches up at the back of your head, it doesn't fall to the back of the coat, and when the hood is tucked away in the collar, it feels unnatural. I returned this coat for the MH synchro hooded jacket and am much more pleased with it. I also saved about 40-50$. see my review on the synchro jacket before you buy, you will be glad you did. I would only buy this jacket if you wanted ONLY an outer shell and you are always going to wear it with a insulated liner. If you wear it with t-shirts or everyday use, you will be much more happy with the synchro jacket. I'm giving the swift jacket 4 stars because of the arangatan cut sleeves and weird hood configuration. other than that, it's a decent jacket.
Absolute favorite spring/summer raincoat and windbreaker. I used it in heavy rain on the golf course stayed dry all day; opening the pitzips allowed me to regulate my temperature. Best in class!
The Swift works well with an insulated layer, just so long as that layer is also slim-fit (I use MH Compressor PL Jacket, Im not sure how some fleeces will work if they are too baggy). The result: a warm, waterproof combination. But why bother with THIS jacket? Because of the style. It looks modern (I have black) and is slim-fit, so I can use it in "inactive" settings (e.g. going to class) without seeming like I'm wearing a legitimate, outdoors-oriented jacket. People always wonder how I can stay warm because it doesn't look like I'm wearing much at all!

This product is very nice and very high quality. It has very nice waterproof zippers and is super light. Although I like it, it is somewhat pricy and I thought it would be somewhat thick and more insulated. This product is more of a rain jacket than anything else.
I bought this jacket before I left for a trip to Tibet. It performed well as a versatile outer layer when trekking 17,000-foot passes. It is the perfect outer layer for blocking wind, rain and holding in heat. Additionally, the long pit zips allowed me to blow off steam without removing the jacket. The best feature is the headband-like adjustable elastic hood draw. Makes the hood fit like a hat and keeps periferal visions in tact. I lost my original one and purchased it again at your site. Thats how much I love this shell. I shopped the other brands. I think it is the best on the market.
Great quality as typical of Mountain Hardwear. Bought a medium in lapis, and it fits fashionably slim for 5'8", 170. If you're planning on heavy layering then size up. The waterproof-ness is terrific, as is the cinchable hood and watertight zippers (though the main zipper can get snagged occasionally). Recommended to anyone who needs an extremely lightweight, stylish storm jacket for mildly aerobic activity or around-town use. Lacks a comfort lining like my former Patagonia eco-torrentshell, but still pleasant against skin.
