Why We Like The Stronghold Tent

Designed to shelter large groups in the worst mountain weather, this huge double-walled dome is what we rely on for a common gathering space, kitchen, and sleeping quarters when our squad goes off the grid. With a six-foot-plus ceiling and 15-foot diameter, this tent provides plenty of room for up to ten rugged mountaineers to hang out in (relative) comfort. The dome shape is built to shed wind and snow, and there's a series of perimeter and roof vents to keep air moving, whether we're cooking or collecting vapor as the group sleeps.

Supertent!

Used this tent for a season and a half and it is magic. I have been using it in the north of Sweden in all kind of weather. It handles high winds with ease, rain and storm no problem what so ever. The material’s being used like the DAC poles are really easy to work with, the inner tent fabric is thin but super strong and durable. On the inside there is literally a ton of mesh pockets and attachment rings to hang lights or equipment to dry. The windows are a nice feature that lets light in and makes it a Breeze to keep an eye on the weather. All the bags are of high quality and the main bag with its compression straps are a joy to use!

The highest quality

Great product. We use this on our Ian Taylor Trekking Kilimanjaro trips. Our last space station tent held up for a decade.

We've babied the tent for a long time (no long camping trips). This summer we are on a 3 month long adventure. We have a crazy wind and hail storm. The next day the rain tarp feel apart. I started the process of contacting Mountain Hardware. They told me they had rain tarps in stock so I continued with the "process" (since we still have 3 weeks left on our trip). When we finally talk to Patrick he told us they don't make the rain tarp anymore. And there was nothing Mountain Hardware was going to do to help us out. He told us a few stories about other people who had the same problem and Mountain Hardware did nothing to help them. I recommend buying a whatever tent. Cause when the Stronghold tent falls apart, which it will, Mountain Hardware is going to tell you it's your fault for taking it out camping...

The Ultimate Basecamp.

The Stronghold is the highest level basecamp tent on the market- no question. I have used one for many years and lived in it continuously while bouncing from one basecamp to the next. This tent is worth every penny and can withstand any storm you find yourself in. Time and time again we have weathered great storms in the Alaska Range with our stronghold. 60mph winds outside- bare feet and playing cards inside.

Mountain

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

It takes 2 persons to setup no way around it. Guy lines run randomly in weird directional patterns. Little luck in grouping sets. Overall impressed.

Perfect for trip to Peru

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I'm Charlotte, a French climber in my 30s, and I've been expatriated in fun Salt Lake City, UT for 2 years now. We used the Stronghold tent during a 10 days trip in high altitude in Peru in 2019, and we had a great experience. Once packed up, the tent is obviously heavy but it actually fit in a regular duffel bag and was just under the airline bag allowance weight, so it was great not to have to pay for it extra. Once on site, we were 6 people using during the day, and 4 people sleeping in it. We had a lot of space as it is made for up to 10 people, which made it nice to walk around inside comfortably, and dedicate a zone to sleeping and another one to storage/kitchen. Haven't used it since then - well we set it up in our backyard for fun, but that doesn't count! - and I'm looking forward to the day it will come to use it out there again!
