The Mountain Hardwear Spire 2 is an ultralight 2-person 4-season double-wall tent for alpine climbers and mountaineers who like to move light and fast in the high mountains. The Spire's double doors are each protected by a vestibule to allow you and your partner to enter the tent without getting snow inside. The double vestibules are also excellent for cooking in a storm and storing gear. At 4lb 9oz, this Mountain Hardware tent weighs far less than most 4-season double-wall tents while remaining strong enough to withstand horrendous winter storms. Light enough for an alpine style assault and burly enough for a fixed camp, the Spire is an incredibly versatile mountaineering tent.

This tent has worked very well for me while solo, but a bit tight for me and the wife. It has weathered a couple of windy storms for us in Yosemite, but I'd like a bit more room for my winter gear and to move about when the storm is blowing outside.
We've coupled it with the SilTarp2, and I like that combo, but I'd still prefer a slightly larger storm worthy tent. But, still, for one person, I think you'd do well to carry this tent.

Super light, bombproof and affordable! I have spent more time in this tent in the past year than my house, some of that time was in the Himalaya's - never a problem! Keep in mind it is tight for 2 people but with 2 doors and 2 vestibules I had no issue's.
Has anybody used this tent yet? Is it worth going two wall design?

I used this tent last winter and it set up quickly. Here in the Sierras, I've tried single wall tents, but ended up with a lot of condensation.

I was caught in a Central Alberta (Canada) hail storm. We were camped as a group after doing the MS150. A terrific hailstorm came in and all the tents were evacuated. When we were allowed to return, most tents were damaged; anything from being flattened to having holes torn in them. My Spire 2 did not suffer from any damage. Only complaint I might have had was that I was in a bit of a hollow and there was some water in the tent. Perhaps .5 of a cup. There was also a bit of hail that had made it under the fly. In comparison with the Wal-mart specials - Nirvana!

This tent is awesome. Material is strong and appears to be durable. Took this tent with me to climb Rainier and it fared well. The weather was perfect for my climb/camp though, so I can't say how it will fare in bad weather. I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars because the rain-fly does not come down and cover the entire tent?! You can even see this in the picture above. Also, keep in mind that this tent is TINY (I am 5'5" and I think it is small!). I used it with my climbing partner who is 5'9" and it was ok for us. It is rated for two people, but I personally would not spend more then one-two nights in it because it would not be very comfortable.

hey all, i'm a guide up here in N.H.,and use my spire on mt. washington and the presidentials all winter on 80+ mph days and nights and the tent has stood up to everything the mtns. have thrown at me !!!!!!! highly reccomended to all......

Haven't had a chance to set it up yet but the materials and weight are perfect. This tent packs smaller and lighter than my The North Face 3 season and has me excited about the upcoming spring camping.
