From sorting gear to cooking meals to sleeping an entire expedition party, the Mountain Hardwear Space Station Tent is an indispensable four-season basecamp shelter for prolonged high-altitude use. When you’re in it for the long haul, pitch this 15-pole dome tent and plot your upcoming summit bid.

  • Floorless design features perimeter storm flaps that double as waterproof seats when the tent is pitched over a snow pit
  • Tent fabric has waterproof and titanium dioxide coatings for protection against storms and harsh UV rays
  • Dome shape and 15 poles hold up to strong wind gusts
  • Internal guy system and bar-tacked stress points increase strength during mountain tempests
  • Three doors with two-way zippers give the group multiple entry points
  • 5 SVX weather windows let in light and allow you to check conditions
  • 1 large top vent and multiple perimeter vents for efficient air flow
  • Included expedition duffel bag stores tent for easy transport

Bottom Line: A high-altitude bomb shelter for serious mountain assaults.

Forgive my ignorance, but would you be able to use a stove in this tent and how would you vent it? I don't intend to go to Mt. Everest - just live in Minnesota. Thank you.

Buy a canvas wall tent, then you can have a heated space with a wood stove and you can cook on the stove too. it will also cost you thousands of dollars less and last many more years. there are multiple books on this subject, if you are going to spend thousands on a tent research your best options, which the space station is not for long term livability in minnesota. obviously a wall tent is not what you want to drag into an alpine environment (or probably drag much of anywheret, but for dirtbagging it in minnesota a canvas wall tent fits the bill a yurt might not be a bad option either, but is more permanent and expensive..

Marion. I agree with Jeff but many expeditions around the world have cooked in this tent. It is larger and better vented than my last apartment and I cooked in there. Again, not recommended to cook in any tent but this tent is HUGE and it has a roof vent in the center of the tent and 3 doors. So, I'll leave it up to your best judgment and no question is a bad question. Thanks for asking!

Even though this tent has over 300 sq ft of floor space, it's still not recommended to use a stove, of any kind, in an enclosed area. Any venting, unless sideless or topless would be inadequate. Carbon monoxide can fill the interior space before you realize what's happening.

Why is the floor seperate from the top of the tent, and does it come with a rain fly that keeps out tons of snow?

It is a floorless single wall tent. The tent has storm flaps that can have snow piled on top of them to make a snow-proof seal.

No... but, it will keep the wind and sun off of you next time you are spending 3 months at the 17K Everest Basecamp! I would also wager it would out last all those other competing tents as well. They are priced this way for a reason... if the materials we use were less expensive, heavier, and/or not as strong, the tent would be less expensive. The titanium oxide coating on the fabric, the uber-geodesic pole design, and overall strength of the entire package makes this one of the most popular basecamp tents around.

You're right, it's so much more expensive than all of the competing 15 person expedition grade tents out there.

This tent blows. For 6,000 I could have purchased a small burmese family, but instead my crew took the space station. After the first week at base camp more...
