Description

Waterproof protection in a breathable shell.

Aggressive alpinists and skiers can agree on the Women's Snowtastic Softshell Pant by Mountain Hardwear. Its 3-layer, fully taped Dry.Q Elite softshell ensures waterproof protection in a surprisingly breathable package. Unlike standard waterproof membranes, Dry.Q Elite starts to breathe the moment you put it on, instead of waiting until you're already a sweaty mess. This highly breathable technology makes the Snowtastic fantastic for skinning, touring, and alpine climbing, and its waterproofing ensures protective comfort during snowy days at the resort.

The Snowtastic also features internal powder cuffs to keep snow out of ski boots, and the adjustable suspenders are removable for convenient coverage. There are 3/4-length side zippers for ventilation as well as easy on-and-off, and the smooth Micro-Chamois waistband wicks moisture for extra comfort. The Snowtastic snaps into accommodating ski pants for complete coverage, and the Recco avalanche rescue reflector may assist Recco-equipped ski patrols in emergencies.

Worth every penny

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

So this is my first pair of snowpants/shell. I don't ski or snowboard but I took a one week trip to Iceland last week. I needed something that was wind and waterproof but not bulky. Most of my trip was hiking and glacier climbing in the middle of nowhere Iceland. I hiked upwards of 14 hours per day and it snowed and rained on and off all day everyday. I trucked through muddle puddles, drove snowmobiles and 4-wheelers. Throughout all of this I NEVER once got wet or cold. I really could not believe it. Under the shell I wore Under Armor running legging. With those and these pants I was perfect. The boot protector on the bottom fit right over my hiking boots without a gap. I thought they might be lose because they are meant to go over ski boots but I didn't have any issue. And while my friends were pulling up their ski pants all day the suspenders kept me in place and comfortable. I have to say I almost threw up at the price but talked to some people and they said real winter gear is expensive but you'll have it forever. So I bought them and would do it again. I put these things through way more than a ski trip and they didn't let me down.

Hi There,
Do you mind sharing your measurements and the size you bought so I could get a sense of whether or not they'll work for me? I'm strongly considering getting these based on your review, but I'm 5'11" and concerned about length.

The shell of my dreams!

Usually when I'm going skiing, or doing anything in the mountains, I am going to sweat like crazy. I need a shell that is breathable and keeps me protected from the rain, snow, wind...etc. These pants are great for touring and every day skiing on the hill. Super water proof and fit great. Durable too as I put every pair of pants through the wringer by hiking, snowmobiling, and other outdoor activities that are generally hard on the gear. I love the soft-shell feel to these pants as well. Material is soft, but really performs well. Coupled with the Mountain Hardwear Snowtastic Jacket and that's my dream outfit! I rock a M because I wear a knee brace and like a little bit of a baggier feel for comfort while moving in the mountains. Love em!
