The relaxed-fit Mountain Hardwear Men's Runout Pants are a burly barrier between you and rough rocks. Heavy-duty Crag Canvas looks new after climbing outdoors all season. The built-in Mountain Hardwear webbing belt and low-profile waist won't get in the way of your harness or chalk bag, and drawcord cuffs keep your pants dry when your approach takes you through a stream. The two rear pockets and the side pocket all zip shut so you can climb without losing your wallet and car keys.
Bottom Line: Sturdy pants for crag climbing in cool weather.
what a great purchase. perfect for winter rock climbing, hiking, camping, and running to class. while the button came off the first time I used them, the built in belt more than makes up for it. the material is durable but soft. gusseted crotch and articulated knees are awesome. I bought baggy and its perfect. The pant allow a full range of movement. Im gonna get another one.
I like this pants, they are conmfy and the material is durable. I like the small pocket on the side that I use to carry my phone. Unfortunately, Mountain Hardwear makes pants by Small, Medium, Large, etc. instead of using waist measurements. The pants are too big for me, but can't go the smaller size because it would be too small. I wish Mountain Hardwear would make sizing better.
Depending on the weather and your altitude, these should be fine.----------------------The Run Out Pant is a heavy weight cotton pant. It's not good for rain or bad weather... but, if the weather is good they are a durable and great pant.

These pants are amazingly comfortable and versatile. They don't have that "technical" feel that some similar pants exhibit. Plenty of room to move without feeling baggy. They are absolutely bomb-proof, yet the reinforced paneling does not stand out. I wear these for all but the worst weather treks and even around town. They are a bit heavy, but exactly what you would expect from the sturdy cotton material. The only thing keeping me from giving five stars is the lack of more flexible sizing options. This is par for the course with outdoor pants, but I am in between the regular and long sizes. If you are a perfect 33 inseam, the regular will be great after washing.
These pants are made in Vietnam and made absolutely horrible. The sizing is completely off. The fabric is less than par. I would rather these companies not make pants at all then have to order and THEN return them. What a pain in the butt. Save yourself the time and buy some nylon pants at a retail store for god's sake.
I'm a 29-30 waist and have average size legs. how "relaxed" is the fitting? i like to be comfortable, but still don't want to feel like i'm swimming while standing. any advice from the average-to-thinner crowd?
I would get a small and I think you will be good to go. I have a 31-32 waist and I am in between a small and a medium. Great fit for climbing and working outside. Hope this helps.
I bought these pants for my hubby. They have a really nice style to them and are made from pretty heavy cotton fabric. But, alas, they are too short for him. The smalls are 30" at the waist and 31" in length if anyone is curious.

You should be fine in terms of your legs. I found the waist to be a bit out of proportion and on the large side and the legs to be just a hair on the short side.
These are my favorite cotton pants. The are extremely durable, fit great, look good enough for a workday pant and night on the town as well as making a great bang-around pant. I use the small side pocket for my cell phone - inide slip pocket holds it perfectly. One well thought out an well made pant.
So I have hiked in every style and brand of pants. And I am convinced that I have found my one true love. Yes I agree they are short, but they are CLIMBING pants. So they are meant to be short. You want them to drag in the mud, then go to american eagle and buy some super fad crap. I have 2 pair and I am very active and hike a lot. They haven't ripped or even really frayed at all. So if you want a good durable pant these are it. And stop complaining about them being heavy when it rains, you'll just get a better workout.!!!!!!!!
Right now they have them in a short inseam. If you're looking for something else the best thing to do is jump on "live chat" and ask those folks. They'll be able to look up if they have any more on order and if they do roughly when they're expecting them.
I use it for climbin and it is great. Tough material and allows unhindered movement. The price is reasonable.
I have a 32" waist and I wear a Small szie! However it comes with an integrated belt and you can tightened it up. Works great for me because I like my pants loose at the waist
I bought the first pair in an outfitter store while on a trip after trying them on. Now I have four pairs, getting the last three on line in two different on line orders. These pants are functional, sturdy, and look great. They are also a good buy compared to the competition. They would not be suitable for hot weather, but here in upstate NY they are good for all but the winter season.
Overall the pants were great. Solid and sturdy. Sizing was weird. I am a size 34. I tried the large and was swimming in them. Medium was a bit snug but worked. I would like to see these pants with actual pants sizes instead of small, medium, and large.
I love these pants! Easy to care for, durable, very comfortable, and most of all they ain't bad looking. I use these bad boys for rock climbing, bouldering, hiking, lounging. I also use them at work for which I do electrical work and they are awesome! I own more than eight of these sweet items and recommend them to anyone!
I love these jeans! I use them everyday, and I own more than eight of them. They are the comfortable, durable, and stylish. I use them at the crag and for bouldering and they don't bind. I also use them at work for which I do electrical work in construction and they rock!
Mountain Hardware is the best. The fit of these pants are like other MH items-- you need to try them before you know for sure... I have Three Small MH Canyon pants and they fit my 29 inch waist, 29 inch inseam perfectly. I bought these in the small size, and the waist is perfect but the inseam is closer to 31-32. I normally would just get these adjusted BUT they have drawcord cuffs, and the seams on the knee pockets now run low enough to start chaffing my knee caps. The pants are really, really well-made so I've giving them 4 stars. The fit should be more predictable with inseam size choices!
Sizing was totally off. I'm a solid 32" waist and I was swimming in the medium. Also, I wasn't too impressed with the quality, so I didn't bother exchanging them for a smaller pair.
These look great and feel awesome! They are tuff and make a good pair of winter hiking pants or just when you want to do it rough! It was a pitty cause it got the sizing wrong and im in Australia so its a head ache to return. But they fit my mate real swell and he loves them! So get the sizing rigt.
I just returned from 2 weeks hiking in the Canadians Rockies and these pants held up great. No bunching, chaffing, snags or serious wear. They are a tad thick so if you live wear it's hot and humid they might be a bit too warm. Would be a near perfect pant if a thigh pocket was added to the left left similar to the right.
These pants are comfortable. I bought two pairs at an EMS store closing a couple of years ago at half-off half price. Those were in the large size and they fit me fine then, I like the freedom provided by the gusseted crotch. I dropped about twenty pounds, retired the large pants, and purchased a pair of the medium-sized pants. They are even better, providing a flattering look along with the comfort that comes with the quality craftsmanship one can expect from Mountain Hardware. I now wear the shorts, too - they fit better than my old hiking shorts from Sears. I will continue to buy these comfortable, loose-fitting pants.
I'm up in Denali Alaska using these pants for the first time. They rock. They are bulletproof, and even keep a good deal of wind out. I love them. I had the shorts before the pants and they ARE the best shorts I own. I have the large. I am a 34 waist and the pants are big. Not too big to wear. You can cinch them with the built in belt, but they are still probably 36's at least. The shorts fit much better and they are large as well.
One thing that is kinda hidden is the elastic adjuster around the bottom of the pant for when you need to hike up your pant when your climbing or heading to school and you dont want your pant gunked up with grease. They are true to fit, don't worry about some weird sizing.
I bought my first pair of these pants last fall. Since then I have bought 3 additional pair...they are great, by far the most comfortable pants I own. Whether sitting on a plane, kicking around town, at work, or an ad hoc hike....these pants gotcha covered.
Ok...so when you find a pair of pants that fit and wear as comfortable as these pants do you make sure you have more than one pair in your closet or drawer, or where ever you stash your clothes (I currently have 5 pair, of various colors). I don't have these for a specific activity. these are daily attire for me and they are Mountain Hardwear and they totally work!!!
These pants are the best thing I have found in quite some time. They fit right off the rack. Ultra comfortable. I don't climb, but thought I'd try them on anyways. Glad I did. I ordered 2 more pair from you guys
I've been a fan of Mountain Hardwear gear for a few years now, and these pants just reinforce why: they're comfortable, tough, stylish, well-designed, and the fit is spot on. I wear them to work, on weekends, and on the trail. I have two pairs, thr first of which snagged on a thorn bush or something, but they didn't rip very much at all (barely noticeable). Take care of them, and they'll last a good long time!
Pants came with a 'security clip' attached that could not be removed. I notified customer service yet was still accused by the return department of returning pants that were not purchased from here, my notes read "Loyal Customer, see notes. We will honor the customer's word". Wow, gee, thanks for believing me.
These pants will fit fat tall people rather well if you can remove the security clip. Otherwise, sitting down might become an adventure.
what a great purchase. perfect for winter rock climbing, hiking, camping, and running to class. while the button came off the first time I used them, the more...
I like this pants, they are conmfy and the material is durable. I like the small pocket on the side that I use to carry my phone. Unfortunately, Mountain more...
