The cold is cool.
It's January and it's cooooold up at the top of the lift. You're pretty sure that you can't feel your toes, but, oh well, no biggie, your legs are toasty with the Mountain Hardwear Women's Returnia Insulated Pant, which utilizes Thermal.Q synthetic insulation to make unbearable temperatures fun. Your legs are the workhorses, anyway, right? The Returnia boasts a Dry.Q Core two-layer shell, so you know it's reliable, waterproof, and windproof. Should you start turning up the heat (oh lordy, how that would be nice right now) while ripping the groomers and moguls, let the heat out of your zippered thigh vents. It's all worth the cold, cold temps when you find a powder stash in the trees, and you won't have to worry about the inside of your boots filling up with the white stuff, because you've secured the internal powder cuffs. See, the cold is kinda fun.

- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
I was really excited to get these pants, I'm a big fan of most MH products and I got these at a great deal end of season. Unfortunately, I'll be returning them before I ever use them. I'm 5'6, 155 lbs, and generally fit perfectly into a large from most other companies (North Face, Columbia, etc). I ordered a large in these and they were HUGE on arrival. This I would accept as my fault for not checking sizing well enough (I was in a rush when I ordered them), but in addition, the zippered vents on them are downright silly. They are located on the outside of either thigh (not where I produce most of my heat!) and there is NO MESH on them. So when you unzip the vents, you are left with a gaping hole on your thigh that goes straight down to your base layer. Definitely disappointed.

Women's retunia insulated pants run long
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: Runs large
Bought a pair for my wife 5'5" - 128lb a medium fit perfectically except for the length. I looked at MHW web site and noticed that this pant comes in S, R, & L inseam. S=30", R=32", & L= 34". Backcountry only had the R-32" inseam model. Had to return item and ordered directly from MHW. 30" inseam is now perfect.
Pants look great and function perfectly -

I've heard from other reviews that the MH Dry.Q Core technology can vary in waterproofness anywhere between 10-20k. The Men's version of this pant is rated at a surprising 40k, though several reviewers said it was probably lower than that. Any idea what the waterproof rating of this women's pant would be?
