Don't forget to refuel every few miles.

Lose the old undies-under-shorts setup you used to sport and go with the Mountain Hardware Men's Refueler Short for all of your trail and road ventures. As you pound pavement or dirt, the quick-drying material pulls moisture away from your skin to evaporate while a DWR coating on the exterior fends off splashes and sprinkles.

    Everyday Wear

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: L

Excellent fabric, comfortable, quick dry time, no undies required! I'm not normally a short-shorts kind of guy, but these don't make you feel overly exposed.

Great for running, hiking, swimming, river wear; really any activity where you don't want swampy nether regions! I have 2 pairs now.

    Great Running Shorts

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

Love the Refueler Short! The fabric is supple and they have a cut that is very mobile. I've never been a fan of liners inside of shorts, but figured I'd give these a whirl to avoid wearing compression shorts for longer distance runs in the heat. I'm now looking to either buy a few more pairs of these, or find another short with a similar liner - super comfortable. Sizing for me was great, I have a 32" waist and wear a 32" inseam pant and found the Medium with the 7" inseam to be very comfortable, and not too short.

These also crossover nicely as wet-wading shorts for fly fishing, and they dry very quickly. Take them on your next trail run to a high mountain lake and pack a fly rod!

    Go-To Shorts

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: M-9

I've been wearing these shorts for running for the past 2 years. I've logged over 2k miles and 3 marathons with them from the roads to the trails and they haven't let me down once. At first the brief liner was a little weird as I had never had shorts like that before, but now I don't even notice its there. 9" hits right at the top of the kneecap on my frame.

Do yourself a favor, buy them and get out there

Great Running or All Around Active Short

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium

I have a father who is a mad scientist who never buys himself clothing. When my mother asked that I buy him some good shorts for walking and the gym that were inexpensive and versatile, I went with these. They are light and breathable and very comfortable. My father is a bit of a picky human, but loves these. He loves he mid thigh length, the only gripe he has is that they are sans pockets. Otherwise, he has already asked for the another color as a fathers day gift!. The run true to size, my father is 5 foot 8, 145 slender with a 31 inch waist and the medium fits perfect.

    Great Running Shorts

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

These running shorts have been comfortable since the first fit. Fits mid thigh and has netting inside. Well made for long runs in hot or cold.

    Great Shorts

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I bought two pairs and then ordered them in another color because I liked them so much. Good for all activities. Quality build. Great fit. Nice looking.

I love these shorts - on my 2nd pair.

I run in these shorts every day, and they've been great through hundreds of miles of trails, races, and trail races!

If you're looking for a lightweight, unobtrusive running short, but you're too modest to join the 1-inch inseam team, get these shorts. The seven inch version falls nicely above the knee.

      Refueler Running Short: Comfy

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

I have several pair of these shorts. I can wear these all day and never feel like they are about to reshape my anatomy. Breathable material which has a huge temperature range to provide optimum comfort during changing conditions. Don't weigh a ton when wet and dry quickly without chilling you. Can't go wrong with the Refueler. See our detailed review at

      They're Shorts!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

It doesn't get much simpler than that! It is hard to mess upa pair of running short. Mountain Hardwear makes these ones great for the recreational runner as well as the hardcore ultra runner. I have only had these for a couple weeks and they have been great. Lightweight, good mobility and with a zip stash on the back. Bought medium for 31 waist and they fit great.

Very light, in a good way

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size

I think they fit great. I wear a 32 in almost everything and ordered a medium. I can't believe how light they are! No pockets doesn't bother me. I don't really notice that I'm wearing them. Excellent pair of work out/running shorts.

      Great Shorts!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

I have 2 pairs of these and they are my favorite running shorts. They are very comfortable and wick away moisture very well. As mentioned by others the only drawback to these is the lack of any sort of pocket. Other than that they are perfect.

      Buy this shorts!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love this shorts, love the inseam, love the length, love the color, love the fabric BUT there's a couple of things that I don't love:

      - No pockets, nada, zero, zip, just a tiny coin pocket on the front, too small to be used.

      - I got an XXL and it runs a little bit on the big side and the waist strap doesn't really seem to adjust it.

I would buy this again any day of the week and as another reviewer said they are not just for running, they are great overall shorts.

      Not just running

These are super comfy and great all-around outdoors shorts. Have worn these swimming, running, canoeing, sailing, and general cavorting. I bought the small, which is probably too small for me (~31" waist usually, 6' tall) but w/e they're too comfy to return.

        My favorite running shorts

Not too long, not to short, just perfect length above the knee. They don't have the slit between the front and rear of the shorts like some old-school shorts have but still have plenty of range of motion. All around killer shorts for running.

Hardwear changed the cut a little from their original release of the Refueler. They have a little more leg room than in the past which depends on your personal preference. I liked the slimmer leg of the old short just so there wasn't as much material in play. Still a great short though.

I'm 5'10" and considering either the 7" or the 9" inseam. Roughly where will they fall relative to my knee? Thanks.

Do these shorts have a compression short...

Do these shorts have a compression short liner or is it a brief liner?
