Powerstretch Softshell Jacket - Men's

Thanks to its Polartec Power Stretch Hardface fabric, the Mountain Hardwear Men’s Powerstretch Jacket gives you the warmth and comfort of a fleece with the protection and stretch of a softshell. A balaclava hood and thumb-loop cuffs provide added protection in bad weather, and the soft brushed interior feels good on a barstool or in base camp.

Bottom Line: Feels like a fleece, protects like a softshell.

Pretty nice

Nice material, well made and warm. Fit is definitely athletic but comfortable; you won't be layering much under this unless you size up. I'm 6'4 and around 210lbs and the XL fit pretty well. Length was great in the sleeves and the bottom sat just below the hips. The hood is great when zipped up but looks insanely cheezy if it's not zipped. Almost midevil knight-like. This is kind of why I returned mine, thought I might like the zip up hood but realized I wouldn't use it that much and its a bit much to just have hanging off your shoulders. I've had this problem with another MH hoodie too, but the zipper is really hard to get started on this thing. Are they child-proofing them or something?

Can anyone compare this to the patagonia r1 hoody? Seems like a slightly burlier version of that with some wind/water protection

The R1 hoody is made out of polartec powder DRY; whereas, this jacket is made from polartec power STRETCH. Power stretch is more expensive, much warmer, and has (hence the name) more stretch. There are a few types of power stretch out there, and it is very difficult to know what type is being used on a particular piece. This jacket is saying that has the "hardface" technology, which means that it is going to offer some added wind resistance for use as outer wear. So, if you are looking for a jacket to use as a warm softshell, this would be a better choice then the R1. The R1 would work better as a not as warm base layer. On a side note, REI uses polartec powerdry in their base layers at a FRACTION of what Patagonia charges.

Hope this helps!
