    Science says it's the best.

Hiking in the rain is the way to go, because all the bears are hiding, the people are staying home, and the Mountain Hardwear Plasmic Ion Men's Jacket is keeping you totally dry. Its Dry.Q Evap waterproof and breathable membrane fights off water and boosts the nylon shell's breathability to the extreme, and underarm vents add an extra shot of ventilation to keep you from getting sweat soggy. The Plasmic Ion's adjustable hood and hook-and-loop cuffs seal off all the back doors to make sure water stays where it belongs—on the outside. The Aquaguard front zippers make sure moisture doesn't sneak in through the front door, either.

    Plastic bag feel and effect

Maybe the rain does not go through but walking under the rain for 30 min only, at a leisurely pace led me to shed one liter of sweat. So if you re looking for a plastic bag that is cut into a raincoat, this is for you. If you are looking for a rain jacket that is breathable, this is definitely not for you.

      Great all around shell

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Large

I was looking for a good, lightweight, breathable shell that I could use for multiple activities and I found it! My first use with this jacket was down in Moab on a multi day biking trip and it rained on us pretty much everyday. This thing not only keep me dry, I was able to ride with it on during the breaks in the weather. I was super impressed with how well it breathed. Just unzipped the pit zips and I was good to go. I've also used this hiking up on some local trails and have the same feedback. Great protection from the rain while being super breathable.

      Great all around shell

      Light rainshell/windshell

      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: XL

This is a nice rainshell/windshell. Relatively loose cut so ideal for layering. Blocks wins and light rain well. Could wear it alone in warm weather without getting too overheated. Can also layer it out with insulating layers under to work for when it is colder. Light and packs down small. Decent venting. Zippers could be better quality I think. If you work up a sweat, this thing gets wet inside without some major venting.

      anyone else had splotching?

      • Fit: True to size

First off- love this jacket! I've worn it 3-4 times with great results but i noticed darkened splotches have developed on the arms and chest , looks like faded stains. I have the Golden Brown. Anyone else?

      Awesome jacket

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: XL

This jacket suits the needs that I expected. Lightweight, true to size, wicks the water off no problem. I really like the hood, it has a good visor. Definitely would buy another and/or recommend it to a friend.

      Super Shell

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Large

I picked this up last spring and it quickly became my favorite mountain jacket. I've used it spring skiing, running, hiking. It breathes really well, it's lighweight, and repels rain and snow and wind. What more do you need?

      Great for urban use

The jacket is light and fits great. I have broad shoulders and have trouble the correct sizing. I have a size L and have an athletic. I have been in the rain for no more than an hour with the jacket and the water beaded right off. The pit zippers are great and help regulate temperature. Quality purchase from a great brand.

I am 6'3" and I want this jacket to fit well (not too tight, nor too lose). I'm thinking large, is there any recommendation for a size?

        Hey,
What's the recommended size if I want a nice relaxed fit. I'm 6'0 and 165lb. Size 40 chest

        Karim,

With a 40" chest and wanting a relaxed fit, I'd go Medium. MHW's sizing changed slightly and this Medium will be great for a relaxed fit on you.

I'm 5'9, 150 - should I go for small or medium? Primary use will be trail running.

        Akret,

Without knowing your chest and waist measurements it's a bit hard to recommend a size for certain. But I'm 6'0'' and 180 lbs and the Medium fits me perfectly with a 33" waist and a 43" chest.

AKRET, did you ever purchase this? I am looking to get this now, I am close to the same size as you (5'9", 150lbs, 30 waist, 38 chest). Torn on between going with a small or medium. I want it to look fitted but not too tight like a bike jersey or a shirt.

Does this jacket have an inner liner?
