Description

Go ahead and throw that heel hook.

It can be hard to find a pair of climbing pants that are durable, stretchy, water-resistant, and that have a not-too-baggy, not-too-tight fit. Hard, that is, until you stumble across the Mountain Hardwear Men’s Piero Pants. Mountain Hardwear gave these bouldering pants a semi-fitted cut for comfort without a lot of excess bulk and articulated knees and a gusseted crotch for high-foot moves. A DWR finish comes in handy when it starts to sprinkle on your hike back to the car.

Very comfortable.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Solid. Very comfortable. Somehow wide at the bottom. Have problems with stitches around a pocket. Will send to a manufacturer for repair, but definitely will keep it. Also, pockets could be deeper. Only one small zipper protected side pocket.

The pants are made of Salado™ Stretch Canvas. Mountain Hardwear makes the Sajama pants in this fabric.

Get them while you can...

I would wear these everyday if I could.

Awesome!

Have not worn them out on the trail yet, so I can't comment on durability etc. Wore them to work as soon as I got them though. They are REALLY comfy and fit great (6' 192 lbs - got 32x32). As other users have said, they have quite of bit of stretch in them which is great. Really anxious to hit the trail with them. Fabric and build quality are top notch!

Flexible yet tough

At first glance the Piero pants didn't seem to have any flex; especially with all the heavy duty seams all over the place. It's once you put them on you notice they have a great deal of stretch, which makes them my most comfortable pair of hiking pants. Its like the best of both worlds; they can take a beating yet are comfortable and forgiving. It also took me a little while to discover there are two extra pockets on the right leg. Useful for all kinds of random things thrown in. Definitely ordering two more pairs.

Best pants I have ever owned!

I have four pairs of these, one of which I have owned for over two years. I have played and worked hard in these and they have never failed me. No holes or signed of wear anywhere. These are tough, breathable, and somewhat water resistant. If they do get wet, they dry fast while wearing them. No matter what your activity level is these pants will survive. These are truly must haves.

I completely agree! These are my favorite pants for everything but backpacking. I've used them extensively on trail, at work, at home, and while traveling. If I had a bit more cash, I'd trade in all of my cotton work pants for a few more pair of these. :D

works for girls!

As a small waisted bottom heavy female I have a hard time finding pants that will fit well. Only after the find can I worry about functionality. These pants are amazing on both counts.

Great Pants!

These pants are very well-made. They are well-suited for colder weather hikes, etc. and stylist enough for dining out afterwards. I would definitely recommend these to anyone.

Go To Pants

These are nearly perfect as all around, go to, good for everything pant. Clearly they excel at what they were made for which is climbing but they're also an awesome cool weather hiking pant. The fabric is bomb proof so you don't have to worry about ripping these things and it's got plenty of stretch. A couple more pockets and the MH Piero would be the ultimate all around outdoor pants.

I typically wear a 33 or 34x34 bootcut jean. I have a pair of MH mountaineering/ski pants (older model) in a size M but they are a bit short. This has never been a problem because I always use full length gaiters. Will I be O.K. with a 34x32 in this pant? I will use primarily for 3 season backpacking and occasional climbing. If I use a gaiter it will be a low profile Spring version and will most likely go under the pant leg.

The "regular" inseam for Mountain Hardwear pants is 32" so these will probably be much the same. The "long" is 34" so you might consider ordering those, although it will be from somewhere else, since BC doesn't seem to stock these in the 34 inseam.

Best Pants Ever

These pants are awesome! First of all they are the most comfortable pants I've ever worn in my life. They maintain this status while also being lightweight, durable, and functional. I recently wore them for several months in Afghanistan and followed that up by wearing them on a three day backpacking trip to the Sipsey Wilderness in Alabama. The pants held up well against rock scrapes, briers, and the occasional scrape across downed trees. I took the liberty of doing a little bit of bouldering in them and was pleased to find the stretch fabric performed excellently. My pants never became an issue while climbing. The water resistant fabric also held up well against a light rain and battles dirt and stains well. I will be purchasing many more pairs of the Piero Pants.

perfect pant

I pretty much agree with the other reviews, these pants are aweseome. I have no complaints. The hand pockets are shallower so that your legs have more flexibility... a bonus I think.

Bazooka proof pants!

These things are great! Never been a big MH pant fan as they never seemed to fit me right. These brought me back into the fold!
Durable, stylish and very comfortable. I had these on for 30 hours on 2 domestic and 1 International plane ride and they still looked freshly cleaned and pressed when I got to my final destination. Pretty sure the guy sitting next to me spilled half his airline food on me and nothing stuck to them which is a huge bonus!

Buy them now, no, really, do it!

Most durable pants I own

I've had a pair of these for around 3 years now (longer than any other pair of pants I've ever owned) and I use them at least 3 days a week. The fabric is pretty thick, so it has some minor insulation compared to the usual lightweight synthetic pant. I live in the northwest, where the summer's aren't too scorching (especially in the mountains), so I use these pretty constantly year-round. They are still pretty water resistant after 3 years of heavy use, and except for a hole I melted in them on accident (not a durability issue, just a stupidity issue), they have more or less no signs of breaking down, except for the color fading very slightly. I have some mesa pants (also by MH) and have gone through about a pair every year and a half at about the same abuse I put these pants through, to give an idea of how durable they are. The only thing I wouldn't use them for is tracking/stalking, as they do have the usual noise issue that all synthetic materials have.

Best. Pants. Ever.

I ordered the khaki ones but ended up with the black. That was UPS's fault, not Backcountry's. They actually did an amazing job with getting a new pair out to me right then (they ran out of my size). Now to the good stuff.

Basically, this is the best pair of pants I've ever owned. The knees are articulated and it's great for heel hooks and anything with high feet. The material is kinda stretchy (similar to a soft-shell type material). On me, they are well fitted in the seat and thigh and loosen up as they go down and they kinda flare out at the ankle. Nothing crazy though. I wasn't sure I'd like the black but I loved them enough to pay full price for another pair (from another site) in the khaki.

Also, I've not had any trouble with shallow pockets as one reviewer mentioned. There is a nice small zippered pocket on the leg that is good for change and stuff. I don't typically climb with keys, wallet, and phone so the pockets are fine with me.

Can't get more soon enough!

I absolutely love these pants. Durable, comfy, just the right amount of stretch. I wear them literally all the time. Yoga, climbing, sitting...you get the idea. Instead of new jeans and khaki's, I'm just stocking up on these. Lifetime warranty??? hell ya. Do yourself a favor and grab some of these pants

I haven't worn the pants, however I ordered 4 pairs for a family member who loves them!! He is very particular, so if he rates them great, they are!!
