The Mountain Hardwear Phantom 45 Degree Down Sleeping Bag is an ultralight but full-featured bag perfect for the traveler who's a card-carrying member of the “light is right” club. With its alpine mummy cut, the Phantom maximizes warmth with minimum bulk. A face gasket ensures you won't wake up with a frostbitten nose. Snag guards on the zipper reduce stuck-zipper frustration. The footbox is multi-baffled for added comfort and warmth, while the zipper is ¾ length to let the down do its job down by your feet. Baffles spaced at 5 inches apart ensure you don't get those cold spots on your knees. Last but definitely not least, this bag is composed of 800 fill down!

Bottom Line: Mountain Hardwear has made an addition to its popular phantom line perfect for the svelte-minded traveler focused on both comfort and light weight.

Mountain Hardwear Phantom 45 degree bag

This bag is very light, compacts smaller than an ultralight Therm-a-Rest, and kept me plenty warm on 40 degree nights on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. If you just can't handle dropping another $300 on another Western Mountaineering or Marmot Atom, the Phantom 45 is the only choice around.

This pack is perfect lightweight adventure racing gear. Packs about 1/3 the size of the larger 32F rated Phantom. While I only utilized it in conditions down to 50F it kept me abundantly warm in outdoor and windy conditions. Would probably do the job to 5-10 degrees below the 45F rating if properly closed. Good cushioning as well. Slept on it for 7 days without a pad underneath on packed sand/semi rocky desert conditions.
