Phantom Down Jacket - Men's

Ward off numbing winter cold in the Mountain Hardwear Men’s Phantom Down Jacket. Mountain Hardwear stuffed the ultralight, downproof Mescalito shell with high-lofting, super-compressing 800-fill goose down for turbo-charged warmth in the backcountry or just around town. Adjustable hook-and-loop cuffs and dual hem drawcords keep icy drafts from creeping in, and at only 15 ounces, the Phantom practically vanishes into your pack when you’re on the move.

Bottom Line: Down doesn't get any warmer than this, at least not at this weight.

Instant Warmth

By:
February 9, 2011

This is an incredible jacket for backpacking or just about any cold weather activity. Within seconds of putting on this jacket, you can feel the warmth. It's great for those times when you're backpacking in cold weather and need a jacket to keep you warm for a few minutes while taking a trail break. Wish I'd had this jacket years ago, but glad I have it now.

great jacket. the purple color is way off online. it's not purple, it's navy and you can't tell it's navy unless you're out in the sunlight. if you want navy, order the purple!

Warmth Without Weight

By:
January 24, 2011

Husband and I backpacked for a year and this jacket saved us! Kept us warm while climbing up Kilimanjaro and toasty while hiking in Tibet. Plus it was a perfect size since we had limited space. So many times we were thankful for this buy! Great job Mountain Hardwear!

The Phantom

By:
January 22, 2011

I am 5'11" 200 lbs and the large fit perfectly. Jacket is very warm and has room to layer a fleece. It has been dipping into the single digits in Northeast and the Phantom is warm. Will be taking it skiing soon. Seems to block the wind quite well.

Not as good as montbell-really 3.5 stars

By:

pretty cool-really thin material. Even thinner material than some of montbells. This jacket doesnt feel like it has much down in it-but granted its only 16 ounces. However, due to the jacket being so light and not baffled, but sewn thru, there seems to be a good amount of thin spots with little insulation. For the price, i think you get a better product with montbell. I own the montbell alpine down (baffled) and this-I am thinking of returning this or selling it and buying another montbell. The montbell alpine down weighs one ounce more, is baffled and has thicker shell material-hard to argue that this is a better product. Oh, and the montbell is cheaper. Montbell is the company to beat and mountain hardwear lost here. Sorry mountain hardwear.

I was referring to the montbell alpine down-as I mentioned not the alpine down. The alpine down is baffled. The alpine light down is not baffled.

utah whatchamacallit if way off base. I ordered the Montbell Alpine lIight down jacket and it's clearly inferior to the Mtn. Hardware Phantom jacket which has more filling, superior loft, actually has baffling (the montbell does not), and sewing and workmanship are better as well. utah whatchamacallit let me astray. I'm returning the montbell and will order the Mtn. hardware Phantom.

Ruff n tough with 800 fill puff

By:

Great jacket. I needed a warm coat for a trip to Norway in a few days that I could pack down to nothing. This little Betty filled the job. Not only is it super light but also very warm. I was turned onto the phantom when searching for down jackets that had long sleeve lengths. I am 6'2" and 198 lbs. I bought a large which fits about perfect. Thanks mountain hardwear for making jackets that fit supreme outdoor athletes!

Warm as toast in October Sierra

By:
October 14, 2010

I've had my jacket for several years. Wore it for months on end, but in the Sierra and Andes. I actually wore it out, especially around the cuffs. It still has loft and is plenty warm, but has many small holes to let out the down. I intend to buy another. This jacket is perfect to throw in a suitcase as emergency warm should the weather turn nasty.
