The weather this weekend looks may look a bit dicey, but your Mountain Hardwear Onata Softshell Jacket will help keep you in the game. This jacket's softshell fabric provides basic insulation against cool weather, and its water-resistant coating prevents light rain and snow from soaking through to your baselayer. It also provides UPF-50-rated protection from the sun, so feel free to wear it even when clouds aren't threatening to drench your afternoon hike.

Bottom Line: Soft, pliable, and water-resistant jacket for afternoon hikes.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the difference between this jacket and the MH Offwidth softshell? From the pics they look to be about the same, only about $20 difference. Any insight would be appreciated. thanks.

Hey Matty. Just answered your same question on the Offwidth Softshell page. Basically, it is a difference in fabric weight that is the main difference. The Offwidth jacket fabric is brushed on the back making it a little warmer as a result. I hope this info helps!

Good light jacket

This jacket is definitely high quality. The cut is great if you're looking for an athletic fit with fully articulated arms. It's a little lighter than I thought it'd be, but I'm finding that to be advantageous, since it just means that it packs down smaller. Mountain Hardware stuff is great and this jacket is no exception. Not perfect, but definitely solid for the price.

Someone swooped my 1/4 zip chockstone at a party at MY house

Someone swooped my 1/4 zip chockstone at a party at MY house a few weeks back...i loved that jacket and wore daily. Was going to pull the trigger on the hooded chockstone until i heard about the Onata.

Just curious if the cut on the Onata is the same as the chockstone? I sized up on the chockstone and it fit great. Any thoughts?

keithcliff. The Onata does in fact fit similarly to your Chockstone that got swiped... bummer that!! We call it an 'athletic' fit. With that said, our fits have been adjusted season to season in order to get them more in line with the rest of the market. If you want it to fit more relaxed I would consider going up a size but I like the athletic cut and will pick up my true size. I hope this info helps!

This question is for Jon Webb. Since you seem to be the "go-to"

This question is for Jon Webb. Since you seem to be the "go-to" guy on everything Mountain Hardwear.

I have the Mountain Hardwear Chockstone Jacket; which I love. However, I hate the hood (I hate most hoods, not just the one on the Chockstone). I just ran across this jacket and see that it seems to be the same material (chockstone doubleweave) as my Chockstone Jacket, without the hood. I figured that by losing the hood, I would also lose some weight as well. But this jacket weighs more then the Chockstone Jacket with the hood. So, does this jacket have a thicker lining (i.e. warmer) which would be fine, or is it something else?

Any information you have would be great.

And, as a side note, the tech answers that you give are extremely informative. Thank you!

Sean. Thanks for your comments and your question! Much appreciated. The Onata and the Chockstone are made out of the same fabric. It is essentially a non-hooded version of the Chockstone. I am not sure why the weights are showing up differently but I will look into it. I hope this info helps!
