They can be found for a great price on sale. For what they are designed to do, they do it well. They repel snow and somewhat stop the wind. They are not breathable so if you are looking for something to kick through summer scree I'd suggest ankle gaiters.

Actually I'm glad to be in my nut shells. They do the job of keeping everything but your feet out of your boots. The "under-foot" cord is easy to adjust, as well as tightening the top with mittens on. They work, and I got a great deal on mine.. Just happy about them.

How is the waterproofing on these? Will it keep me dry when trekking through the snow?

Michael. In short... yes. The gaiters are made with a heavy duty and coated 420 D pack cloth which will keep the snow out of the top of your boots and everything dry. I hope this info helps!

Nothing stands out in this gaiter, it works well for what it's supposed to do. I still wish they'd turn the toe hook right side up, it would make for easier manipulation.

These were my first pair of gaiters. Technically they do the job, since they keep water from the outside from getting in and getting me wet. That gets them a few stars. Also, the material is very durable and survives being snagged on brush and trees.

They DO NOT BREATHE, however, so if I'm moving at all my legs get completely soaked from sweat condensation. It's better than snow melting and soaking through, but it kind of defeats the purpose. I still wear them XC skiing over fleece pants because pretty much everthing gets soaked with sweat them and they keep the snow out of my boots, but I would not wear them for expeditions of AT or anything that requires you to stay dry or else.

The final stake in their heart is that their ankle openings are not big enough to accommodate large mountaineering boots, snowboard boots, or ski boots. So even if I wanted to use them for burlier stuff, I couldn't because they won't fit over the boot.

They are waterproof, durable and cheap, which prevents them from getting one star. I wouldn't buy them again, though.

Write your question here.. How wide are these? Looks like there is not a lot of leeway if legs are more muscled.

I've got pretty skinny calves and with a thick pant and long johns these gators are snug but not bad. I guess if you had a real beefy calf you might find them tight.

I bought these for my boyfriend and he has pretty big legs and they worked great for him. If they don't work great you can always return or exchange them.

I'm saving the 5 star rating for the company that makes a cheap gaiter with a zipper covered by a velcro flap.

These gaiters use a full velcro opening which takes a tiny bit of effort to close smoothly as you're trying to tuck in your pant legs. If you're not careful the velcro can get bunched up or off track. But if you start at the top and carefully work your way down you can close the front securely. Once employed they did not come open after two days of rough hiking through the pines.

The nylon cord at the bottom needs to be tied off to fit around your boot. Do it once and you'll never need to adjust them again unless you change to a different size boot - so put in a good knot and forget it. If the cord ever breaks you can replace with any shoelace or cord.

There is a metal hook at the bottom front to catch your shoe laces. This keeps the gaiter from riding up on you. It works fine.

There's a snap on the top and a draw string with spring loaded fastener to make for a really tight fit. It did not slip on me at all...in fact I had to loosen it because I pulled it too tight - so no snow is getting in at all.

Great buy. Why would anyone pay more? Well maybe I'd pay $5 more for a zipper.

The length of these is 15.5" and a medium would probably fit a size 9 just right. Hope this helps.
