When you need to cut the chill but a monster puffy is overkill, the Mountain Hardwear Women’s Nitrous Hooded Down Jacket is just right. With quilted 800-fill goose down, this compressible jacket works under your shell on cold ski days or as a compressible insulator for summer alpine routes. The included stuff sack makes for easy packing, and the stylish stitching and feminine cut handles around-town adventures.

Bottom Line: Four-season down warmth for in or out of town.

Courtney. The hood on the Nitrous Hooded Down Jacket is designed to fit snug to your head and so it will NOT fit over a ski helmet. I hope this info helps!

All Around Great Layer

I love this jacket. Mountain Hardwear made the perfect down jacket for wearing under a shell. I get frustrated with super puffy down jackets when I am active in the mountains because I cannot fit my shells over them. So when it is very windy or cold, you lose warmth by having the shell jacket under the down. This layer is hooded to keep your head extra warm when needed, and it is light enough to always stuff in the pack in case it gets colder than you expect. I just brought it on our new years ski into a remote lodge- didn't need it on the way up, but on the way down, it was essential. I was also pleased to note that I was not the only one with this layer.

Very warm, superlight, roomy. Material is thin, but it's Mountain Hardwear (ie. great construction) and I've (accidentally) brushed it against sharp objects, with no tear. I love the crazy stitching and color. It's still amazing to me that something so light can be so warm. I use it under my ski shell and hiking, on it's own. It works for 30 degrees and 0 degrees. I've gotten the sleeves wet and the down came right back up. This is a medium and the back covers most of my tush. The sleeves come over the wrist.

Jacket looks great and you look very happy. But is this the hooded or unhooded Nitrous?

I live in this jacket!

Got this jacket after returning the Marmot Ama Dablam because of a funny fit. This one is perfect I literally haven't taken it off since I got it. Warm but not cumbersome. It is thin, certainly not a big puffy but it more than gets the job done.

Hey Dana,

The prices here change daily. So if you are stoked on this jacket then I say grab it now while it's still on sale. They offer a 30 day price match guarantee as well so if it drops in price over the next month you can have the difference refunded to you.

I got the Patagonia down sweater for Christmas and it is shorter

I got the Patagonia down sweater for Christmas and it is shorter than I want, and very long in the arms. It is very boxy...In my opinion, typically Mountain hardwear has a more appealing line/athletic cut to it. Would this be a better option for me?

When I was in search of an ultra-light down - I tried them all on. Patagonia's Sweater, Marmot's Venus, NF, but this jacket was by far the longest fit in the back which is what I wanted. The others seemed so short and barely came to my belt line, but this one covers a few inches of your bum. I agree with the others - I love this jacket and can't take it off. No matter the outside temperature, it seems to do the job without making me too hot in warmer temps. It also has a very appealling athletic fit and I can't count the number of compliments I have gotten on the red/but not really red color. Love it...
