Too big

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit:Runs large

I'm 6'1 180lb and got the large.

The length for the arm is good but it felt really big around the abdomen/chest area. Like the other reviewer said, it feels drafty.

I think medium would be a better fit but unfortunately I'm overseas and can't return it

Forget I'm wearing it

Pic of arm length (this is obviously the hooded jacket but you get the idea). This is a Large, I am just under 6', 165lbs and wing span just over 6'4". This pic shows my wrists exposed but that is only from being hunched forward with both arms forward. My wrists are normally covered during normal activities ex:driving etc.

Great jacket, very light and warm. The fit is what you would expect from Mountain Hardware: I am just under 6', around 165lbs athletic build but I have a wing span of just over 6'4". My large fits my arms perfectly and is very comfy on my torso. The Med fit pretty well but the arms were too short (story of my life). My only complaints are all pretty minor: the insides on the pockets reach the bottom hem making the pockets a little colder for your hands, I also wish the hood had a drawstring on it. (I have the hooded Nitrous)

    Mtn Hardware scores big again

I'm 6'5" 220lbs and find Patagonia products among other manufacturers to be cut too short in sleeve length. Mtn Hardware (size XL) always delivers for me in this department and the Nitrous is no exception. This jacket says it is relaxed fit and I wish it was cut just a little tighter around the belly but at least I knew it would not be athletic cut when i bought it.

They've made a few improvements to mirror Patagonia by adding pocket zips and now the jacket packs into it's own pocket. Kinda would prefer the stuff sack, but I guess it's nice not needing to keep track of it.

Was looking for an upgrade & better fit from my old Patagonia micro-puff. So far this jacket has been exactly that and very happy with my purchase.

      Nice lightweight coat

      • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Very nice! Got compliments right away after heading out to the ski slopes...very comfortable, a little long, but otherwise a true winner!! Super lightweight and really the only layer I needed over my polar fleece pullover on the slopes.

      Like a glove

      • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I am 6' 175 and the large is absolutely perfect. I had it under my shell in whistler and it performed like a champ. Not tight across the back and provided great movement and warmth. Never had an issue while winds were >80kmph and -8C. Only reason it does not have a 5th star is that there are some better jackets but this one is on the lower end of the best of the best

      Not so perfect fit

      • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it

I received mine from SAC a couple days ago. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it so I'll give my initial impression. I'm 5'9, 155lbs and the Medium is really, really tight around the back and arm pits with a t-shirt on when I reach forward. Otherwise the sleeve length and back length is perfect. I was curious to see how I sized up and I measured a 39" chest so the medium is supposed to be the money shot. If I stand straight with my arms hanging down it seems perfect. If i put my arms in front of me or reach for anything it immediately gets really tight and restricts my motion. I see it being a pain every time I'll have to dig through my pack, fix my skis/boots/skins, make lunch, belay or anything that requires me to have my arms in front of me.

I put it on a few times and a thread pulled inside one sleeve so 2 quilts have now become 1. Not a big deal if it only happens once but obviously as a first impression it makes me question the quality.

It doesn't seem very warm. I've had a thick down jacket for years that I rarely wear because I naturally stay very warm. Putting it on over a tshirt, it doesn't seem any warmer than a thin wool sweater that I compared it to. I bought this mainly for ski touring as something to throw on when I'm not moving but I feel like it'll be a waste of money even at $100 I paid for it. I'm going to return it or sell it for what I paid for it to someone local.

What's all the down sweater hype about?

I popped into MEC (Canadian equivalent of REI) to compare some jackets. The Mtn Hardware Medium felt equivalent of Patagonia and MEC brand Small for the down sweater/jackets. Nitrous jacket ran small. Patagonia Down Sweater seemed the best; better fit and more loft than the nitrous.

Weird... I'm 6ft, 180lbs, and I wear a size 40 in suits (in most brands). The medium size fits me perfect, the small isn't able to zip up and the large has so much room I'd get a draft. The medium can even accommodate a 100wt fleece underneath, without restricting movement. BTW, the jacket rocks!

      Perfect Fit

      • Familiarity:I've used it several times

Weather's not cold enough yet to test the warmth of the jacket. So this is just to say that I'm 5'9", 170lbs, and this jacket in a Medium could not be a more perfect fit. I tend to buy MH clothes because they usually fit me better than other brands (and for other reasons too, though), but this is even better than usual.

Quick update. Warmth in 30is weather is perfect. Length is a little long, making it awkward to keep your hands in them. Plus, pockets aren't lined with anything soft, so they get a little clammy, too (but I guess that save weight). And the chest is just a little tight.
