Description

An extra hit of heat in an extra-light package.

At just nine ounces, the Mountain Hardwear Men's Nitrous Down Vest has just the right amount of goose down insulation to warm your core when you're on an ice climbing route, hunkering down on the trail, or enjoying deliciously deep powder on your skis. Thanks to the relaxed fit, you can easily pull this vest over a thick next-to-skin layer and, when things heat up, just whip off your vest and pack it away in its own pocket for easy storage.

  • Quilted pattern makes sure the goose down stays in place
  • Micro-chamois-lined chin guard won’t disturb your windburn
  • Hem drawcord tightens the Nitrous so no frigid air creeps in while you climb or attempt to sleep
  • Vest stows into its own pocket for easy packing in your touring bag or backpacking pack

Better than I expected- Lifesaver!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Excellent core warmth in the clutch. I live in cold, damp Seattle where temperatures can swing 20 degrees in the same day. Its light, easily packable and ready when I need it. Bonus- dries quickly after a little over-heating from activity

Simply warm

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

I was looking for a simple 800fill down vest that was just plain black. This was also my first Mountain Hardwear piece and I was pleased to see that this vest was simply just a warm vest with two zippered pockets. It has hem drawcords so you can cinch the bottom if you ever wanted to. Fit runs a bit bigger than my other vests, but would definitely allow you to run a sweater or thicker layer underneath.

Good vest but caution on the color

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Have a gray Nitrous and love it. Blocks wind, is rain resistant and works wonders on the hills and climbs. So I thought I'd get another... the Royal has quite the purple tint to it. Now to each there own... but this guy isn't a fan of purple or pink. So, heads up.

Decent Vest

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I recently purchased this vest in Royal. I have to say that the picture is misleading. The color is lighter than what is shown. Instead of Royal, I would say that the color is a Powder Blue. Its a bit more feminine looking than I would have liked. Also, I am about 5'10" and weigh 172 lbs, 31 inch waist and 41 inch chest. I ordered a medium size. It is just a tad bit snug in the chest but the large would be too "long" looking. This vest does fit snug - not that it is small - but it is meant to be a snug fit.

It's OK...

I purchased this to replace my Montbell vest. I liked the Montbell better, but it was discontinued. This piece just seems drafty and more cumbersome than what I prefer. Thank god for the bottom drawstrings. I assumed from the photos it wasn't going to be that puffy, but it is. I have worn it throughout the winter and I am just not sure it really fits the bill. The Montbell was uber thin and warm as hell, this thing is definitely more for city use than out on the trail.

Great vest

The vest is well made, very light weight, and still pretty warm. I use it as an outer layer over a long sleeve t-shirt or as an under layer under my jacket. It holds heat in well and it even packs up into the pocket.

Hi, I am 6'5 185lbs athletic build, looking for sizing opinions for a snug fit. Is the medium shorter than the large?

Responded on

bot. The medium will be slightly shorter than the large. With your dimensions, I wouldn't go any smaller than a large. I hope this info helps!
