Warmer than .....

I live in Alaska and I live to be outdoors. I hike and camp all Winter with no car, no heat. Nilas Bib are like having lofty sleeping bags on your legs. Very soft and easy to move in without the swish swish swish of most down insulated pants. I gave them a 5 for warmth detail and workmanship even though I would have liked an insulated top part. The straps were a bit long for me as I have a short torso but the rest fit perfectly. Medium, 5 '5" 145 lbs, athletic build. The length was fine (long legs, short torso, I wear a small in your backpack torso length) I debated a while because they are expensive. GOOD stuff is usually expensive. You are not just paying for name. Its about 800 Fill of Goose down, warmer than Prima loft, lighter, softer. Goose is also better quality and more insulating than duck down. No problems in minus 30 F with no pants under the Bib, just a base layer. So these may be TOO warm for plain old Winter. If you are serious, these are serious.

Nilas bib

I recently used the Nilas bib pant on Mt Tyree in Antarctica. After 12 hrs up we went into the shade and began the 22 rappel descent. The warmth of the Nilas pant was one of the highlights of the whole climb, they kept me toasty in the minus 30 temps.

Warm light down bibs

Second day I wore these bibs the right leg zipper split open. Took quite an effort and long time to fix but the self sealing zipper finally was fixed. Same thing again the third time I wore these...the fix was quicker. Wore them a few times after these two problems and everything was OK after that. I hope I do not get this problem again when I use them on my next trip. Other than this, they are very warm and lightweight.

Nilis Bibs - Bwana

They are warm. Love the light weight. I used them ice fishing on the MN - Canada border in January with temps around Zero F and was comfortable. The zippers seem awful light weight for clothing meant for mountain use. But they worked ok for three days. I hope they hold up. I am 67 yrs old, 5'-6", 180 lbs, with a 46" chest and found I needed the XL size. The chest when zipped was too tight over a heavy undershirt on the "Large". The outer fabric, tight weave ripstop nylon (I believe), is water repellent. I got it wet several times when pulling trout thru the ice. The water just beads up and wipes off. The same is true for fish blood and slime. Because I have a 28" inseam I had the inseam altered. On the inside of each leg, I put velcro hooks horizontally along the bottom and another strip of velcro loops horizontally above the first quilt stitching. When folded under it shortened the legs about 5 inches. I also put four velcro loop strips vertical between the two horizontal velcro strips, to allow for any adjustment between full length and the 5" max. When zipped down the zipper stops at the fold of the cuff. This would be a great addition for your designers to incorporate. Only reason for 4 star rating is I have not used them enough to know how well they will hold up.

Toasty warm at basecamp

Pants are a warm and light weight with good loft suitable for use in extreme alpine mountaineering. Bib top is thin so it fits well under a jacket. Pants are comfortable and work well with gaiters and climbing boots.
