I absolutely love this vest. I practically lived in it in Alaska and home in Colorado it has been a constant companion for either layering or by itself. It is light, well fitting, comfortable and well designed with useful pockets. I have had none of the issues with lint or the vest looking ratty mentioned elsewhere. I have 4 or 5 vests around the house and this is by far my favorite. I bought a second one recently because it is rare that I find a garment that I like this well.

I bought this and the North Face Apex Bionic in the same Medium Size intended solely as a Mid Layer vest. This MH vest fits perfectly for me! The TNF was much larger in the chest. I have no problem with the fit of the MH collar, however the TNF 's collar is larger. The exterior fabrics of both present absolutely no problems for the hairs of my two German Shepherds and two cats. I had intended to return one, but my opt to also keep the TNF. The MH Windproofing is great as I've used this while cycling and it does the job perfectly! Workmanship is exceptional. This is a perfect lightweight vest for layering. Fits great underneath a Fleece, jacket or parka! Highly recommended.
nice fitting vest but horrible material

I really had high hopes for this vest as it seemed lightweight and perfect for the mild Southern California weather. It fit nicely but I could never keep the lint off of it. This may seem like a minor point, but it always looked ratty and unkempt even after I washed it and used tape roller/lint removers. Very disappointing. I finally retired it and bought a Patagonia Down Sweater vest and I'm much happier. Great fit, nice finish, better design, warmer
Just what I expected it to be...

I ordered this for my boyfriend for Christmas. He loves the vest and has already worn it numerous times outdoors and to family gatherings. He is broad across the shoulders so I ordered him an XL.It fits his shoulders well, but has plenty of room in the waist.
Great lightweight vest

I'd like to start with sizing since I frequently end up between sizes on clothing. I'm 5'10" and 170lbs, I bought a large and it's plenty big. I like to layer and the large fits well enough to layer under a jacket or coat and it's big enough to wear over a sweatshirt jacket or hoody. If you want a snug fit like to wear while running you'd need to go with a medium. The fabric, stitching, and zippers are very good. It is lightweight and thin which is what I wanted. It adds warmth but if its very cold you'll need to layer, it's not going to perform like a down vest would.
Decent for layering

The vest is very thin making it great as a layering piece. Like the Tech jacket, the collar wasn't incredibly uncomfortable. The sizing wasn't as much of an issue as it is more of a layering item. I am 5'11" and 180lbs and wear a large in most items. For this vest, I had to get an extra large and the body fit fine in the shoulders and chest but it barely made my waist.

This vest has become an indispensable part of my gear in the past 5 years. I take it for all kinds of stuff, not just outdoors trips. It's in my bag for business trips, it's been on vacations, it's my go-to first layer for SAR training and missions.
It's light, it's warm, and it fits me perfectly. It packs down tiny in my pack when I'm not wearing it. The Windstopper laminate is great and really keeps the chill off, much more than any other vest I've ever had. Zippers are solid and feel like they're going to last, even after 5 years of heavy use. I like the tall collar, it stays out of the way when unzipped but protects against wind and light rain when it's up.
Only gripe: No inside pocket. Minor, I know, but it would be nice for things like a phone or keys to be a bit more protected.
Disclaimer: I'm reviewing this product having received it through participation in the Gore MountainTechs program, but I'd be saying the same thing if I paid full retail price for it.
Mountain Hardware Tech Vest- "lightweight"

The Mountain Hardware Tech Vest is very light; don't even know you are wearing it. Extra cool, breathable, comfortable. Good draw strings, excellent zippers. Fits to size. One small drawback, no inside pocket. This is not important, just a convenience in having an extra pocket. Some may claim the collar is somewhat high, but in cool weather you will definitely appreciate the warmth the upright collar brings to the neck. There is no chafing either way, zipped or unzipped. Irrespective of this, to purchase this vest at Backcountry is well worth the effort. Professional, courteous personnel, and knowledgable staff enhance any purchase. Thanks guys. Rate it easily five stars.

This Mountain Hardware Tech Vest will really keep you warm on top! Great for wearing around the house when you feel a chill or for going outside on a day when its cold, but not freezing. Also good as an under layer when skiing or a winter back country experience. Light weight, warm and completely windproof.
Didn't have to size up

As reference, this fits similarly to the Patagonia R1 full zip and retro-x vest where I'm a medium (5'10, 165 lbs, 32 waist).
If the vest is layered over the R1, the R1 hangs about 1 inch longer in the back. So the tech vest runs short and will have a very slimming look, but nothing I would complain about.
I initially ordered a L but it was a bit too baggy, particularly around the stomach.
This fits close to the body so I can't put a thick hoody under it, but this layers very well over a t-shirt and light midlayer, and under a ski jacket.
If you have a gut, then I'd order a size up, but otherwise, get your usual size.
Quality is great as expected from MHW.

I'd probably go with a medium.
The arm holes aren't too constrictive, but it's not exactly baggy under there. So if you have huge lats or triceps, it may get snug. The waist hem area is probably the next area to get tight, but it just depends on how your weight is distributed on your body.
The Vest for serious back country adventure!

This vest is awesome! Windproof and rain proof and can't wait to layer for a trip to Tahoe. Slim fitting which I love and a L fit perfect for me (6'0, 175). It has a sport look to it and super high quality. I am a mountain hardware customer going forward!
Thanks backcountry!
