Wear the Mountain Hardwear Women's Makalu Pants on slushy spring hikes and bluebird cross country ski laps. Mountain Hardwear gave these softshells a water-resistant coating, so they can handle damp conditions. Their brushed polyester lining wicks moisture and ups the warmth factor. The Makalu's articulated knees let you bend and flex your legs without restriction while you negotiate a rocky trail on your cold-weather backpacking trip, and ankle zips make room for beefy hiking boots. Mountain Hardwear gave these stretchy softshell pants a micro-chamois-lined waistband for long-wearing comfort.

These pants are amazingly warm considering their thickness. They are impervious to wind and I found the DWR coating to be more water resistant than expected (I typically buy GoreTex products). Love the ankle zips for fitting over mountaineering or snow sport boots. In all, a very flexible performer for all outdoor activities. Only downside is that the fit on these pants is a bit bigger than I expected, but I'm also a very petite gal (5'2")...

Bought these for my wife--She tried them out hiking in the Adirondacks this weekend--She loves 'em--comfy and warm--windproof (it was gusting 40-50 mph and was in the 20's. Tough enough for some rock scrambling.
