Lynx Fleece Jacket - Women's

The Mountain Hardwear Women’s Lynx Fleece Jacket may look like a frouffy designer fleece, but it performs outdoors like a mountain-scaling jackrabbit. Fluffy, wind-blocking fleece comprises the jacket’s protective body, and breathable stretch panels under the arms keep you from overheating. Hand pockets sit higher than your climbing harness, so schedule a little vertical adventuring for the day. Zip this fleece into a compatible Mountain Hardwear shell jacket if a wet storm blows in.

Bottom Line: Block the wind, no sweat.

FAB!

I love this coat! i don't back pack, so I dont have to worry about ride up.
It is so wind proof! I live on a very windy island, and my EMS fleece just wasn't enough.
this MH fleece is MUCH more protective. It feels like a fur coat! only no worries.
I think the price was fantastick! thanks!

Hey awesome outdoors people, this jacket says it's zip in

Hey awesome outdoors people, this jacket says it's zip in compatible but I cannot find a single zip in compatible shell it will zip in to! The GF has the Lynx jacket and after closer inspection I believe it's incorrectly marketed, "Zip this fleece into a compatible Mountain Hardwear shell jacket if a wet storm blows in." Is this a mistake?

Joe. This is not a mistake. In '08 and '09 we did have zip in compatible jackets in our line that this jacket would work with. This season, we do not. The 6 XS's that Backcountry still has in stock of this particular jacket are from last season. Sorry for the confusion!

not enough mobility

By:
February 22, 2011

I bought this fleece because I wanted something that I could backpack in, climb in, and snowboard in. After trying it out, I am returning it.

If I had bought this fleece just for snowboarding it would have been great. It's wind resistance is killer and its warm (and soft), so it's perfect to snowboard in on a spring day. However, there is very little mobility and the whole unit rises up when I left my arms, making it useless for climbing. The arms do not taper at the wrists, meaning that it isn't hard for snow to find it's way in there, and the pockets are too low, meaning that if I am wearing a backpack or harness I cannot access them.

I'm sad that this fleece didn't work out, but I need something a little bit more functional.

Great Fleece, Weird sizing

By:
April 23, 2010

I really like this fleece. It is very warm and love the WindStopper aspect of the jacket. Great when I'm riding my bike, just walking around town or out on a hike. I ended up ordering a small and a medium to see what fit better. I'm 5'6" and 118 lbs and couldn't decide between the 2 sizes from reading the reviews. They both could have worked. The small was definitely more form fitting and maybe more flattering but the sleeves were just too tight around the wrists especially with a long-sleeve shirt underneath. The bottom of the jacket was also tight around the hips (and i don't have any hips). I think I would have chosen the small if it wasn't for the extra small wrist area. The medium was definitely a bit big in the shoulder/chest area but more comfortable for me and able to layer more easily, which i planned on doing with this jacket. So long story short, I think the jacket is fitted kind of weird but loved all the features enough to keep the medium.

kmk. The Lynx Fleece has a wind blocking laminate behind the fleece and the Mistral does not. It's just dense fleece. So, I bet you would find the Lynx to be slightly warmer than the Mistral overall. I hope this info helps!

By:
January 14, 2010

purchased for my wife, who is always cold... looks great, true to size, and has a great sheen and feel(so does the fleece), :)... 2 things to note- it is much warmer then a regular fleece, with better wind break, and the fleece is not on the inside of the coat, so maybe not as cozy as some would want... otherwise great purchase,,, thanks back country

How does this jacket compare to the men's MH Windstopper

How does this jacket compare to the men's MH Windstopper Tech jacket? Would this be considered the women's version? How is the sizing, is it a slim fit? I'm looking to get this for my mother who is short and round.

jsung. Both the Lynx Jacket and the Windstopper Tech Jacket utilize Gore Windstopper for the wind stopping layer under the fleece. The fleece on the Lynx is a higher loft fleece than on the Windstopper Tech perhaps providing a little more warmth when used as a layering piece but other than that I think you would find the performance to be similar. This jacket does not have a slim fit if sized correctly and it's definitely not oversized. I hope this helps!

Almost Perfect

By:
March 9, 2010

As a guy who practically lives in his MH Windstopper Technical Jacket, I felt it my duty to share the love with the GF last Christmas.

Fit/Cut - excellent. She's 5'1"/155cm and 100lbs/45kg, and about even on legs and torso. The Small fits her perfectly, even allowing room for layering a light long-sleeve jacket underneath. And the flattering, fashionable cut makes it her #1 choice now when leaving the house.

Comfort - stellar. Windstopper is pure win: she's comfy in breezy weather from 75F/24C down to about 60F/15C if just lounging around, and down to about 50F/10C if active (she gets cold easily). A long-sleeve underneath helps take it down further. The Lynx doesn't have pit zips, but she doesn't seem to need them; it breathes well. When out in the snow, it works great as a layer under a shell, too.

Durability - awesome. The first week she had her gorgeous new WHITE jacket (heh), someone spilled a bit of wine or cranberry juice on the sleeve; a desperate cry and a few strokes of a paper towel on the Naughty Rabbit fleece, and the spot was completely gone! It took about 2 months of brutal outdoor beating before the cuffs were dirty enough to warrant washing, and it was like new after: no signs of wear.

Performance - decent. Mobility doesn't seem to be affected much, but the jacket definitely lifts when reaching up; when wearing a pack, she has to pull the jacket down a lot. Further, unlike the men's Windstopper Tech Jacket, the Lynx pockets come down right into where a pack's waistbelt rides, rendering them much less useful as handwarmers or easy-access storage when hiking. Aside from these two issues, it performs like a champ outside, even climbing.

If they made this jacket just a bit more technical, it would be the perfect fleece. And if MH used the low-profile logo on their men's gear, I'd go through a lot fewer Sharpies. :D

Fabulous! very roomy in the shoulders for a Women's XL. I am one of those big shoulder girls....so a plus size is way too big in the body... but a normal XL, even in North Face is just barely right. This Mountain Hardware jacket is so great! It feels great against the wind! And a sweater fits under it...
i paid 62.50 for this and i feel like i got an EXCELLENT deal. Thanks Backcountry!!

The inside (including arms, shoulders, back, sides) is fleece, except for a panel lining the front zipper/where the internal pocket is that seems to be thin long underwear-type material. It is a very cozy jacket and I love it!

Great windstopper

By:
December 25, 2009

This is definitely a nice jacket. I can use it alone in 40 degree weather and still be comfortable, or layer it for more frigid temperatures. It has definitely been holding up against the wind. I have yet to test the water repellent factor.

The fit is nice, I purchased a small. I'm 5'5 and about 120lbs and rock climb. The jacket is very form fitted. I do find the shoulder and forearm area a little tight, but I was looking for something fitting and it's nothing uncomfortable. However, the small does not leave a lot of room to layer underneath the jacket. If you want something more loose or to layer underneath I'd size up. The torso length is also nice.

I am not giving this jacket five stars because the fit could be improved.

I wanted to love this Jacket over NF

By:
March 27, 2010

My 30 year old daughter had this jacket in a small. I really liked it and ordered a medium (I am 5'9" 130lbs with long arms). When I tried the medium on, there is a seam where the fleece and the stretchy, thinner fabric meets that did not lay right and the heavier fleece part sort of bloused out and made my waist look thick. The arms where to short for me also. I really liked the style over the Denali (it is not boxy like the Denali), But I could not get past that strange looking seam. It was like it should have been placed somewhere else, maybe even an inch towards the back to look more slimming ( I am not overweight either :)

Great against wind!

By:
November 18, 2010

I was looking for a wind proof jacket, but with a fleece feel, as opposed to a regular shell. This jacket is great, it really protects me from the cold Illinois wind! The inside isn't a super warm fleece, but a light layer underneath works fine. It's a tiny bit long on me, I'm 5'2" and have a size small.

Boughta small for my wife. She is 5'5 and about 110 lbs. The small was a little too big for her, especially in the underarm area. Otherwise, she loved it! She said it was super comfy and warm.

real nice

By:

I had previously ordered 08 model lynx vest in small (I'm 5'5"-125lbs) and it was rather large especially around the waist. I noticed that MH changed the style to a more feminine cut on 09 model lynx vest/jacket and took a chance on the small. It is just a little tight around the bust but it is a much more all around flattering cut! Looks and feels real good, but I might have gone with a medium if I were to do any serious layering.

The Lynx has the same cut as the Mynx....so if that didn't fit right neither will the lynx, and MH fleece typically doesn't have fleece on the inside or it wouldn't be windproof

well went ahead and ordered the medium because the small was just too tight around the neck and arms when zipped up. The medium was HUGE,2-3 inches longer and wider. Might just have to return both of them.

not the mynx

By:
February 23, 2010

I love it - but it's not the mynx. This is a very nice looking, no glaring MH logo, super soft more of a dressy look jacket. The mynx won over this because it is so much softer all around. The Lynx does not have the stretchy quality and coziness on the inside like the mynx. If I could have both I definatly would! This has a snug fit without the give of the mynx. I would consider ordering a size up in this style due to the material and fit.

Fantastic Jacket

By: Backcountry.com Employee
November 20, 2010

I bought this jacket for my wife who doesn't go outside if it is under 70 degrees. We walked to dinner last night in 40 degree weather and she didn't complain once. I think this might just be the warmest jacket she has ever owned. She loves it, and wont take it off. It looks great and is super soft and comfy. I haven't got her out to the slopes yet, but this jacket might just be the first step in the right direction.
